I've been thinking about going to a Naturopath for quite some time. Does anyone else see one and if so, what are your thoughts?
It looks like my insurance doesn't cover it which really irritates me.

I don't know if my story is what you mean, but I've got a gp who believes in antroposofic medicine.

If he prescribes stuff, it's usually something "homeopathic"(sp).

I don't visit him often but some stuff does seem to work, even though I don't really believe in it. :)

imho, there are good naturopath's, but you've got to find a "good" one?

There might be an association for naturapaths who can tell you which ones are trained to their standards.

I haven't seen a doctor since I was an infant. I have done so much reading about natural health I know enough to be my own doctor. Which probably means I have a fool for a patient. :jester2: :rolleyes2: :D

I know a few people that see a ND and they swear by them.
Since insurance doesn't cover it, it would cost me $135 per visit. There's nothing wrong with me and I don't really need to see one but I thought it might be handy to talk to someone who has a holistic belief system, rather than my GP that's drug happy.

$135 per visit? :speechless:

My3labs, you may be interested in the book I just recommended in the ‘natural cures “they” don’t want you to know about.’ thread. :D

Although I tend to agree with 1vegan about finding a 'good' one.

And BWM, it sounds like you have a very wise patient! :agree:

I've been seeing a naturopath on and off since an incident that left me with heavy metal poisoning ages ago.

I couldn't fault her and I think when I know how ill I was in hospital and then when enough was enough I completely shunned all allopathic medicine, if it wasn't for her I dread to think how ill I would be now and she's worth every penny.

She's also given me the inspiration and I am currently training to be a naturopathic nutritionist along with other therapies.

You're lucky you didn't come down with some nasty infection in hospital, Tiggs. Did the anti-heavy metal therapy involve taking things that would bind with the toxins to take them out of the body?

I did actually..... funnily enough! Some nasty bug similar to MRSA, but the state of the hospital was so bad, I took piccies on my phone and had I been well enough at the time would have sent them to the local paper.

Yep, have been on and off chelation therapy via food and herbs from the naturopath........ allopathic version is even more toxic, so defeats the object....... basically due to having to this present day bits of metal from a wire brush in my foot.......... that's another story!!!

Can't you have the metal taken out?

They managed to take out half of it, but some bits are so deeply embedded it was impossible, so after 2 and a half years as you can imagine, they're dissolving in my body..... basically I trod on it bare footed! Clumsy I know! NHS refused to accept that my health went severely downhill shortly after and the foreign body were accepted, even after bloodtests showed that levels of cadmium, lead and aluminium were at unacceptable levels, so that's how I got interested in alternative medicine!

Trust me to be complicated!!!

I hope you're all healed properly soon.

Thanks Gliondrach!

Am definitely on a good path to recovery and leading a normal life now, although am very careful to eat detox foods.

In a way I'm glad it happened though, as it put me on the path to a healthy lifestyle and a career change, so I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

Well, as long as it turned out all right, it wasn't too bad.
