I just came back from the park with my dog, he has a "pocket" (like a soft cyst) with blood on the inside of his thigh and the sorunding area is red! Does any of you have any idea what this could be and how to deal with this?... It's probably the result of a running injury, but I'm not sure how to treat this and if I should go to the emergency vet .... I wouldn't like to spend a fortune on emergency treatment if I can wait until monday and see his regular vet....

There might be some information here if it is a cyst:

Is it Dog Cyst Weekend or something?
I hope all is well with your whippet and my3labs, lab.

Thanks, Gliondrach. :) The "blood cyst" has gone down a little bit, but the (large) area is still blue/red... it might be a busted capillary... I'll go to his regular vet tomorrow, Monday, just to make sure it's not something really serious. As long as his not limping or have pain, I guess it's not too urgent.

Another one to add to the list for good thoughts.

I hope it is nothing serious, Soynut. :crossfingers: It sounds as though it is already getting better. :)

I hope he's OK too Soynut and will be thinking about him. Please post and let us know when you return from the vet.

It sounds like the result of some injury rather than a cyst, Soynut. Whippets are so delicate, they are even transparent in some places! I hope he's ok! :colors:

Thank you, guys.:blinkwave: I've decided to wait a few more days and see how it goes, he's already better today (less swelling and redness). He's a runner, so these things happens unfortunately, but we'll keep an eye on it. Ice packs are great.

Glad he's doing better, Soynut. Could he have had a splinter?

You know, it might have been a pulled muscle. I just haven't seen anything like it before, the whole thigh swelled up and the color was like a dead body part with a freaking blood blister on it! Yikes, so, so scary. But today, he's even better!:excited: Thank you, my dear fellow animal lovers, for wishing him well.:agree: His favorite uncle is visiting from Europe and "the whippie" is SO excited.:frenchbulldog:

That must have been so scary, I'm glad he's better.

Blood blisters are usually caused by the skin being nipped. Could he have scratched himself with his foot when he was running?
I'm glad he's on the mend.

:) Thank you all for the support and interest.:agree:
The redness is gone but the thigh is still big in comparasion to the other leg.... I think I should have a vet to check it out after all.
Seems like a good idea in case he has an infection.
