Hunter-gatherer style

The regime was devised by nutritionist and registered dietician Lynne Garton and King's College Hospital. It was based on research showing such a diet could have health benefits for cholesterol levels and blood pressure, because it is made up of the types of foods our bodies evolved to eat over thousands of years.

Ms Garton looked for inspiration to the plant-based diet of our closest relatives, the apes, and devised a three-day rotating menu of fruit, vegetables, nuts and honey. The prescribed menu was:

• safe to eat raw;
• met adult human daily nutritional requirements; and
• provided 2,300 calories - between the 2,000 recommended for women and 2,500 for men,

Overall, the cholesterol levels dropped 23%, an amount usually achieved only through anti-cholesterol drugs statins.

The group's average blood pressure fell from a level of 140/83 - almost hypertensive - to 122/76. Though it was not intended to be a weight loss diet, they dropped 9.7lbs, on average.

They were given 11lbs of fruit and veg a day. I don't know where they put it all.

Mind you, they were allowed a 'treat' of cooked mackeral on day 8. The fools.

Nearly 10lbs weight loss in 12 days?! That seems excessive.

My guess...:flush:

Since so many people do not eat enough fruit and veg, their bodies react when they do and purges itself.

But how can you stuff eleven pounds into your stomach in one day? I must eat about four or five pounds of food. Sometimes less. And about 6-8 pounds in cups of tea - but that doesn't stay in my stomach for long.

Well if they were allowed to use food processors, blenders and/or juicers to process the food I think this amount would easily be utilised. :eat:

They had to munch them as they were given. They even had to shell the nuts by bashing them with a stone. And they slept in straw huts. Don't ask me why.

But I am the most mature of all because I didn't resort to mentioning how mature I am. :curtsey:
