You probably all know that Felix, a macaque monkey, is being prepared for experiments at Oxford University. He will have electrodes implanted in his brain so that brain function can be measured and analysed. Despite the fact that there are imaging techniques that can be used to examine these processes directly in humans, the researchers intend to use this monkey in these experiments for years.

Here's an e-mail I received that shows a way that we can do some small thing that might help him:

Subject: Song for Felix - please spread the word and help us get it to
number 1 on IAC
To:

PLEASE take a couple of minutes to listen to "Monkey in a Cage", a
song written and performed by Maria Danes for Felix, a monkey currently
being prepped for what could amount to years of torture in a lab in
Oxford.
The song is currently at number 3 and I desperately want to get it to
number
1. If we can do this there is a much better chance of getting the song
played on radio stations around the country and in that way spread the
anti-vivisection message. Maria has already been contacted by Sue at
BBC
radio Cambridge and it looks as though she may play it - YEAH!!

I want the world to know that Felix is in that lab right now and CAN BE
SAVED!!!

The more times the song is listened to on IAC, (which receives more
than 10
MILLION hits a month!!), the more chance we have of getting it to
Number 1
so listen to it as many times as ya can!

CLICK ON THE BUTTON TO THE RIGHT OF 'PROTEST ROCK' NEAR THE TOP OF THE PAGE THAT OPENS. Then click on the picture of Felix. Then scroll down to the same picture of Felix with the title 'Monkey in a Cage' next to it. To the right of that is a button. Click on that. You might need your speakers turned up. It involves a tiny bit of effort but it could help Felix.

http://iacmusic.com/songs.aspx?SongID=34807&ArtistID=18307

Please crosspost this EVERYWHERE!!!! We really need to spread the
message
and of course give everyone the opportunity to listen to a bloody good
song!!!

THANK YOU ALL

We have enslaved the rest of the animal creation, and have treated our
distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly that beyond doubt, if they
were
able to formulate a religion, they would depict the Devil in human
form.

I can't get anything to play but the intro. Has anyone else been able to hear the song? :bhead:

When I first received the e-mail I clicked on it and it played. But, after posting it elsewhere, I tried clicking it. It didn't play.

I'm playing it now and it is working fine. :agree:

I'm also playing it. So the more we play it the better? I think of all the evils man forces on animals vivisection, in my opinion, is the worst. The animals are born in a cage, tortured for years in a cage and die in a cage.:( :(

I agree with you Charmagne. :( It is torture on a scale that we probably are not even fully aware of, as some of it, such as weapons testing, is top secret. :(

Yes, vivisection is an inexcusable evil. But so are the meat/dairy/egg industries. I think the best way to fight them is to show the unenlightened, and uncaring, masses that these practices are not only wrong from a scientific and nutritional point but also dangerous to the consumers of their products. With proper medical research and proper nutrition the human race will be better off. Proper medical research does not involve the use of dogs, cats, rats and monkeys to find medicines for humans. Proper nutitrition does not involve eating animal products - except human milk for babies.

I listen to the Felix tape a few times each day. It can play whilst I am doing other things on the computer.

There's going to be a week of action to give publicity to Felix's plight.

I saw that on the ALF site. I hope it brings awareness as to what these poor monkeys are suffering through.

This is from an e-mail I received. A petition for Felix. I still play the song quite a few times each day - just in case.

IMPORTANT: Please sign this petition in the fight for Felix, the
primate
within the walls of Oxford University. Felix is the monkey that was
featured
on the documentary "Monkeys Rats and Me" last year and is just one
victim of
this institution which is hell bent on fooling the public that animal
testing works. Help us save Felix by clicking on the link below and
signing
the easy petition. Thanks.

Don't forget, tomorrow, the 4th August, is Felix Solidarity Day. Have a look at the 'Against Primate Experiments' thread in the 'Ethics and Activism' part of the forum to see if there's an event near you.

Julia Stephenson: The Green Goddess

Published: 06 September 2007

Last Thursday found me squeezed into a tiny cage with animal welfare campaigner Meg Mathews and chanteuse Maria Daines, who wrote "Monkey in a Cage", the fantastic song that's top of the indie charts and is storming up the main charts. We were raising awareness for Primate Day on 1 September. Horrifically, monkeys and apes are still used in animal experiments despite doctors, scientists, researchers and 200 worldwide welfare groups supporting a ban.

Used to Green Party photo-calls, when often no one turns up at all, it came as a shock to be confronted by about 20 snappers, lured by Meg Mathews who, as the ex-wife of Noel Gallagher of Oasis, is a bona fide celeb, and very nice too.

The snapping went on for some time. We were photographed getting into the cage, climbing out of it, on top of it, under it and pushing it while smiling, looking sad and banging on the bars. Eventually we could climb out and go home, but many animals are not so lucky.

Humans are only locked up for life when they have committed heinous crimes. This doesn't apply to animals. The dolphins stolen from the oceans and put in tiny oceanariums to do stupid tricks for stupid spectators; the wild birds netted and caged; the thousands of monkeys captured in jungles and caged – they have committed no crime, yet must suffer a life of painful confinement.

The campaigners Animal Defenders do a great job drawing attention to the plight of monkeys locked up in dreadful conditions. It's not a fashionable cause, and we'd prefer not to think about it, but we must.

We don't need to capture wild primates and then destroy them in labs. While there are similarities between us and primates, there are key biological differences that make primate research unreliable. The TGN1412 drug trial caused horrific side-effects to human volunteers, although monkeys force-fed a dosage 500 times stronger had no side effects.

If you want to end to primate experiments, email your MEP today and ask them to support the motion being considered by the European Parliament for a ban on primate testing (tomorrow is declaration day for the motion). Already, 293 MEPs have signed up. Only 93 more signatures are needed! You can get your MEP's name and email at www.ad-international.org.

Gandhi said: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated." Let's prove that and end this cruelty now.

This one just needs the h tt p: // in front. I don't know why some have the h tt and the ww, others just have the ww and others have the htt.

Damn it! I only read this in an e-mail today. Too late to contact my MEP.

Please do make the links here clickable everyone! This is the activism section, and I want it to be as easy as possible for folks to click on links and get straight to where they're going without delay or inconvenience.

Maybe a message to your MEP will still help them to at least know how you feel about the issue?

Felix is dead! The filthy, evil monsters have killed him after they finished toturing him. They plan to torture other monkeys now. Joseph Mengele would be proud of his fellow scum.

The only consolation is that he's out of his misery. But it might just be starting for others.

These people who do these things have no hearts. They are the same type of people who have experimented on humans throughout history - like the monster who practised operations on black women in the 19th century, without anaesthetic. Or those who have experimented on babies. Or prisoners.
