Have any of my fellow Americans seen any of these Silk commercials (http://www.cowsforsilk.com/) yet? I love seeing a soymilk product getting TV exposure, though I don't drink much Silk myself.

I have and I hate them. I even wrote to Silk before I knew they were owned by Dean foods.
I said your ads are insulting. I know a lot of people who drink Silk including myself and the ONLY reason is because it's vegan & cruelty free.So why don't you put that in your ads?
Then of course I found out who I was dealing with and felt foolish......
but I still hate the ads.......I really do hate them!!!

I do think they are a little weird, though I don't feel as strongly as you do Keykey! I used to like the ones, that had the athletes who drank Silk, better.
I still like to see a vegan product get national exposure, though, and we are a long way from getting mainstream America to accept ethical reasons for choosing an animal-free alternative. If my step-Mom, for instance, would drink Silk for health reasons, and give up all the gallons of cow milk she swallows in a week, I wouldn't care if she wasn't doing it for the cows. :sigh:

Well.....the truth is I'm very bitter about silk because the first time I tried it
......a long time ago......I just thought it was the loveliest thing I'd ever tasted. To me it tasted like summertime & wildflowers....or at least that's what the taste made me think of and to know it was cruelty free was just
so sweet.
Then they went and sold out to Dean Foods (http://www.deanfoods.com/)so I could no longer buy
it with a clear conscience.
I've tried many others but they all taste pretty awful including the stuff
I tried making myself which was really REALLY terrible.
So I confess.....I still buy it.....but I don't feel good about it & I guess
that's why their commericals just piss me off....nothing to do with
what they say....but because they leave out the cruelty free part.
Does that make sense?
Really......I should be ashamed of myself.......drinking silk is just as bad
as if I drank cows milk......I MUST FIND SOMETHING ELSE.......any suggestions
.......I think I'll try to find EDEN SOY.

No, not that bad. Its a choice that's hard to make; buy vegan stuff from unethical companies, so that they will know there is a market for them, or boycott them, and they might just stop altogether. :confused:Every time I shop in Whole Foods I think I shouldn't be there, but they've got stuff I can't get anywhere else, so I keep going back. :(

I mostly drink almond milk, either from Blue Diamond (and I don't know who owns them) or Pacific. Right now, I buy Blue Diamond, because they make unsweetened vanilla, original, and chocolate flavors, to which I can add stevia to make them sweet. I know Pacific makes soymilk, too, and its organic, but I don't know how it compares to Silk.

I know alot of people like Vitasoy soy milk, I've only tried the Holly Nog which is excellent. We prefer unsweetened soymilk so we had been drinking Silk unsweetened since it was the only unsweetened soymilk but now Trader Joe's has their own brand of unsweetened soymilk so I've been buying that. Of course, it's probably made by Silk and packaged under Trader Joe's brand.

That's what I like too....the unsweetened.....actually the Light unsweetened.
And I could make my own if only I could find the one ingredient that gives
it a really nice taste and that's carrageenan
Anybody know where I can get that?

I have a soymilk maker and the few times I tried to make it, it came out :blecch:. I vaguely remember reading that carrageenan is unhealthy, I think it's from the Not Milk (www.notmilk.com) website.

   I'm laughing because I have half an email written to you
asking you if you'd like to "adopt" MY soy milk maker.....because I sure
have given up on trying to make it myself. :blecch: same here.
I guess I heard somewhere carrageenan is unhealthy too......but I don't
care.....I love it anyway. I used to have some in a jar I just used for sniffing
because it has the most beautiful sea like aroma.......
Yeah.....so anyway.....I guess you don't want my lovely but idle soy milk
maker...........what about soy beans? I still have a whole box but it's from August......are they still good ya think?

I'll up you, my soybeans are about 2 years old
I have a recipe at home for mock chicken nuggets made from soybeans and its delicious. Would you like me to post it? You can use your soybeans to make something mighty tasty, fried and fattening. :eat:

At least those commercials aren't as obnoxious as the cows telling people to eat more chicken:hbang:

I think its unhealthy status comes from the solvents that are used to extract it. Couldn't you add a bit of a light tasting oil to the soya to thicken it? It would probably need to well mixed each time you put it in tea.
Or perhaps a bit of rice flour could help to thicken it.

Was I the only one that thought this thread was going to be about making silk out of cow hair the first time they saw the title? :dunce: :o

Well, :o :o :o the first thought that went through my head was that some evil scientist was trying to genetically manipulate cows and cross them with silk-worms ... or something like that anyway. :o :dizzy: :dunce:
