What a night Thursday was! Horribly sad but happy all at once. I live in Vancouver Canada and there is a chicken slaughterhouse right near downtown. I pass by it everyday on my way to the gym. I see trucks with cages of chickens almost everyday. It's really sad. The other night I was going to the gym and I noticed down a back alley that the slaughterhouse had two of it's massive garage doors open. I parked and walked down the alley to see inside, and it was horrible. You couldn't imagine how disgusting it was...and the smell. There was blood, chicken feet and feathers everywhere. And this was just the 2 small rooms and in the alley. Imagine what it's like in the other rooms! In the alley there was 8 big barrels full of dead chickens. I guess these ones died during transport. I looked behind one of the barrels and sitting there was a little baby chicken. Not a chick, but still very small with some yellow feathers still. He was just sitting there in the freezing cold, scared to death. He was probably just thrown in the garbage to die because he was so small. You hear about this happening all the time...but to see it was terrible. The horror he must ahve seen and been threw. I have him back at my house right now and he's finally nice and warm...eating and pooping, alot!!
I've attached a link to the photos. Some of them are pretty gross, but check out Hope's photo. Oh yeah...we named her Hope.
You'll see by these pictures that all the work we do for the animals and against KFC is worth it!!!!!!!!!!
Good work guys!!!!

Just thought I'd give an update on Hope. And the link above is just a short video of her eating. As you can see it's non-stop chirping!! She's doing great! She doesn't appear to have any injuries and we checked for ticks and lice which broiler chickens can get as she's clean. Her poop has been sent to a vet to be sure it's ok and we'll know by tommorow probably. Some sancturaries have contacted us and we're just trying to figure out what will be best for her. It would be nice to see her hanging out with other chickens.
And please forward the pictures to anybody and everybody!! Post it on other forums. Print them off and hand them out. Anything!
Here's the link again: http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p146/halv99/

The KFC campaign just got really personal to me and I hope you guys as well. Keep up the good work.

That's a wonderful story. Hope is very lucky indeed. Let's hope that many more are. Let's hope that Brighton Animal Rights manages to liberate every one of those chickens in April.

Chickens make wonderful companions. People shouldn't hesitate to help them. Having a yard for them to run in is nice, but chickens can bond with people, and be kept just like rabbits or guinea pigs. They really are very loving, when given half a chance. :agree:

That's a sad story but it has a happy ending for one little chicken. :)
