Has anyone seen this video? "Behind The Mask - The Story of the People who Risk Everything to Save Animals." ("The Movie our Government Doesn't Want You to See.") Produced by Uncaged Films and ARME Production.
Okay here's the thing. I ordered the DVD, it came 2 days ago, and I have not watched it yet. I'm afraid. I know I am going to cry and cry. I really want to see this and see the animal liberators' work. I just suspect there will be footage that will cause me to have a nervous breakdown. :speechless: (Like the many PETA video clips I watched and KeyKey had to tell me to stop looking already! I was having a total meltdown!!!)
Have any of you seen this film? Any thoughts?
Also, one of the reasons I got it was because I'm thinking of renting a space to do a showing somewhere here in NYC. I'm pretty sure I can get a space pretty inexpensively. And I think I'm pretty good at promoting and advertising (years of music biz experience) - but does anyone have suggestions on doing an event like that? Has anyone here done it? I want to reach out to potential AR activists and/or potential vegetarians/vegans and I'm not quite sure how. I will keep thinking on this. I think a lot of the people we would want to enlighten to these facts are the ones who would not show up at an event like this, ya know? But there's gotta be people out there who could/would want to be reached. Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud and trying to get some ideas if anyone has any suggestions.
Also -are there other AR films you would suggest in addition to or instead of Behind the Mask? (Um - good idea if I actually watched it first, right?)
And lastly - anyone wanna come to NYC and do this with me? :D (That last question is kind of rhetorical.) (Kind of.)
ive seen it at a friends funeral;, a good film it shows a lot of old Alf clips from the 80's and 90's+a lot more, well worth seeing.
its a good idea you have got, it been shown around this country like that small groups of people getting together to organize it, you could do some vegan food just simple tasty stuff to tempt people, maby if you could get a guest speaker to talk about it.how about Dr. Jerry Vlasak or Shannon Keith or some one else

I've seen it. I saw it in manchester with Keith Mann as guest speaker.
Some parts are really sad like the abuse clips (which spring up) and where Jill Philip's mum is interviewed I cried at that aswell, it was a combination of pure outrage and sadness.
It is a great movie to show, and a fantastic one to watch.
I've watched it a few times now.
I think it was shown in NY with Ingrid guest speaker though I'm not sure.
Good Luck with showing it!!

Depending on when you have it, I can possibly help you out with a showing. I can certainly help with advertising in NJ, I can get NJARA (www.nj-ara.org) to send out an alert for the event and probably get some AR and vegan literature from them so a table can be set up. I can also bake some vegan goodies and probably get others to bake as well.
I might (just might) even be able to get some donations from Vegan Treats (www.vegantreats.com).
Let me know what you're planning and I'll see what I can do. :)

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Paul, very good ideas. I was thinking of having vegan food there, :hungry: but I didn't think of getting a guest speaker. :professor: I'd love to - IF I can afford one. I will have to check into that further.
A-Man, I'm gearing up to watch the DVD tonight. (Getting my tissue box ready.)
TVT,your post made me very happy. Any way you can or would like to be involved would be awesome.
This will not happen until after the holidays for obvious reasons (everyone is always nuts and/or unavailable this time of year - myself included cos I run a pet sitting business and this is my BUSIEST time.) But if we start brainstorming now and at least have an idea to look forward to, maybe I can get this going in late winter/early spring. It's definitely a GOAL to set. And I'm getting more and more excited about it. :excited: :hyper:
Think YOU GUYS have anything to do with that? ;)

What a great idea, NYC Rocker! You've had some really good suggestions/offers of help from people already. :psing: I think the vegan food idea is excellent. :agree: Good luck with the whole thing. :yea:
I haven't seen the video. (I get super depressed when I watch any of the video clips on animal abuse, like the ones on the PETA websites. It can affect me for days. :( )

Good idea, about the showing. If you are too afraid to watch because of what it might contain, can you not ask someone to watch it first to see if there are any really nasty bits?
Yes, definitely food for the people who attend. Perhaps you could ask local shops and cafes to provide free food in exchange for being allowed to advertise at the event. Or, if there aren't enough shops to lay on a large feast, they could each donate some food that could be given to the winners of a free raffle. Perhaps, if there are any shops that sell veggie shoes, you could have a prize draw for a pair of shoes of the winner's choice from the shop - which will also be allowed to advertise.
A couple of strippers would also draw in the people.

We have a member, Alistair, who's done this. Here is the thread (http://www.thenakedvegan.net/showthread.php?t=570) he started about it. He hasn't been around here in a while, though.
Good luck NYC Rocker! I wish I was closer, I would love to get together with you and vegantwins and help out. :agree:
good luck watching the film and getting it shown.
hopefully the speaker will just want expenses if anything.:crossfingers:
you and a few other people on here might be interested in this group.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caafgroup
you will need as much publicity as you can, get in touch with any AR groups in the area.
and post it on http://nyc.indymedia.org/en/index.html and any where else you can, indymedia might be able to help you with info
where to show it and they can spread the word.
good luck:thumbsup:

WHEW. Okay I'm trying to catch my breath now. I watched the DVD - yes it was really really rough. To say the least. I'd seen a lot of the footage before.... but of course that didn't stop me from sobbing and jumping out of my seat all over again, just the same. Holy shit. But I really needed to see it, to see the ALF in action. It's an awesome film, so well done. All of the people involved were just brilliant. And it answers a lot of the typical questions that are asked of ARAs, and addresses the stupid ass "terrorist" label - it is clear from the footage who the real terrorists are, that's for fucking sure. I will definitely want to do the showing of this film.
A couple of strippers would also draw in the people.
I agree and I accept your offer, Gliondrach. Please report for duty in your birthday suit and bring a (naked) friend. Date and time TBA.
BWM, thanks for that thread, very very cool! (I love the Farm Sanctuary too!) I wish you could come do this with us too!
Oracl, I'm affected the same way. For days. (I really do feel like the wind has been knocked out of me. Sad and drained and almost physically sick, ya know?)
I really hate the feeling of never feeling like I can do "enough". I'm always trying to think "What else can I do?" Even my music in the past few months has been geared towards AR. (Aaah but that's another project we will talk about at another time.) My big fantasy is to do direct action - an actual liberation. But I admit I fear going to jail which would mean being away from the kitties.... and to me that is a fate worse than death. But liberation is sooo tempting and I think about it all the time..... :sigh:
Right now I think I need to go chill out and make a cup of tea. :kettle:
And no matter how corny this sounds, I'm serious... I'm REALLY glad you guys are here and that we all understand each other. Cos for the most part, I've really given up on humans all together, you get my drift. :updn:

Thank you Paul! I am saving that link to my list and will use it when I start doing the contacting, promotion, etc. I'm just in the idea stage now, but I'm saving all the info for when it's in reality stage. :) It won't be long.
glad you watched it. and enjoy your tea

NYC Rocker - I want to order the DVD. Do you have a link to order it. I googled it one time and it was ordered from the UK and I don't know if they send it to the US or did you find a US link?
The PETA and ALF videos make me crazy and depressed too. Especially the China fur one - I couldn't sleep cuz I couldn't help our poor cat and dog friends that were being tortured to death.
Wish I was up north - nothing every gets shown in the deep south!!

Paul - look what I found on the Uncaged Films site on the How You Can Help page: (bolding is mine)
1.Get copies to donate to your local library for people to check out.
2.Buy copies to give to friends.
3.Plan screenings at your school, office or home.
4.Plan bigger screenings at theatres. If you would like me to attend, please email me and let me know your plans.
5.Donate to our mission of ending animal exploitation.
6.Be creative. A talented woman named Maria Danes created a music station to help promote BEHIND THE MASK. Check it out at: http://iacmusic.com/station.aspx?StationID=2883
7.Do a review of the film and send it to various publications.
 I will definitely check into that!!!

Glad you got to watch it. I liked it a lot. My boyfriend at the time thought it was a "call to arms." I didn't necessarily think so, or think that everyone who bought it should be watched by the FBI (haha). I just thought it was trying to shed truth on what the ALF is and how they are not violent.

I hate to be critical, NYC Rocker, but wouldn't it be more effective if Gliondrach & friend showed up dressed and then stripped naked?
Good luck. If I wasn't downunder :updn: I'd offer my help, too.

In the lastest copy of Satya, I noticed that there was a screening of The Witness (http://www.tribeofheart.com/wit1.htm) in Brooklyn at The Fourth Universalist Society (www.4thu.org) and that they have a group called Unitarian Universalists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. What about contacting them to see if they'd host a screening?

Hello and yes - apologies for being away - I was in Tasmania (Australia) for three and a bit weeks and that meant no computers, phones, and limited other contact while bushwalking.

Hello Alistair, great to meet you! Thank you, and I will take you up on your offer and ask you more questions in the near future when I get closer to making this thing happen.
TVT, I will definitely check into that UUETA organization for sure. I didn't know about that, thanks so much!
Many wonderful ideas here.
I found The Witness and a few more AR films on www.downbound.com. They also have Direct Action and the Politics of Nature, and Lolita: Slave to Entertainment. Anyone see these? I will probably order them all.
It is not the Lolita you are thinking of, Gliondrach. (Just thought I'd interject that in anticipation of his possible reaction.)
