Strangely enough, I was just reading about salt water sniffs for sinus problems. You can use a neti pot. I'm sure Faux or Bowwow or someone like that with some other name mentioned neti pots on some forum or other. Or you could put the salty water in a squeezy bottle and aim it up your nose. Don't squeeze too hard or you could blow your brains out. Or you could lie on your back with your head dangling over the edge of the bed and then pour it up your nostrils, one at a time. Don't breathe as you are doing this. If you do, you won't make the same mistake twice, I can tell you.

Put half a teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water and mix it well.

The trick with the head over the bed can also help to drain your sinuses. Experiment to find the best position. You might need to dangle your head more to one side. Or you could sit with your head between your legs to let it drain that way. But this could make a terrible mess on your shoes if the mucous is loose and watery. Do this for a few minutes a few times each day and even more on a Sunday.

You could try a steam bath. Put hot water in a bowl, add some eucalyptus oil, put a towel over your head and put your face over the bowl. Make sure the steam is not too hot.

A raw clove of garlic every day is supposed to help.

These directions are for information purposes only and I cannot be held responsible for any harm that you may come to. Only the other week, a person I was advising fell off the bed and did herself an injury.

Wow, paul, that's a long time to have a headache. I'm sorry you are suffering. I have posted about neti pots somewhere, but there isn't a thread devoted to them specifically. They are better to learn to use when you are not having a problem, though, as they are more for maintenance of sinus health than curing a severe problem.

Do you like hot seasonings? If you enjoy cayenne and other hot peppers, take as much as you can stand in broth or soup, and this will aid sinus drainage. I usually eat enough to make my face go red and sweaty. This is a lot of pepper, though, and if you are not accustomed to spicy food don't try it. It'll work, but the pain from the hot spice might be too much if you aren't used to it. Its odd, because the active ingredient in peppers which makes them hot, capsaicin, also relieves pain. It works really well on a sore throat, too. But don't use plain black pepper. Its not the same as hot chili peppers. But if you like spice, it will work pretty well to induce drainage. I keep a jar of Thai Red Curry Paste, which is nothing like an Indian curry at all. Its the hottest stuff around, being mostly made of dried Thai chilis, but with lots of lovely added ingredients like lime leaf, lemon grass, and galangal (Thai ginger root) that make it really tasty, and it blends easily into soup. But simple ground cayenne pepper will do if you can't find the Thai stuff.

I hope you find relief. You might also try sniffing the essential oil of peppermint. Not the extract used in cooking, but the real essential oil used in aromatherapy. That often stops my migraines if i remember to use it soon enough, before the headache gets too strong. Maybe it will help you. :comfort:

I don't have anything to add to the information already posted, paul, but I do hope your headache goes away soon. :comfort:
