Yeah for these good people!!

Dog Napper or Dog Lover?

Kim Eicher was shocked when she says she saw Jake, her neighbor's elderly German Shepard/Lab mix, chained for three days, lying on the ground unable to move, and struggling just to raise his head.

"I had to do something," Kim told INSIDE EDITION. "It was killing me to see that dog lie there like that."

Kim, who lives outside Altoona, Pa., says the owners weren't home, so she called the local Humane Society and left a message. But feeling time was of the essence, Kim then called in local animal rights activist Tammy Grimes, who came immediately equipped with her video camera.

"When we got there, we took our first picture from the road and we actually thought he already died," Grimes recalled.

Grimes then took matters into her own hands, and walked onto private property to save Jake. She took him off his leash, gingerly lifted him into her van, and then took him to a local vet, who described the dog as lethargic, severely dehydrated and in pain.

Then, instead of returning Jake, Grimes took the dog to an undisclosed location and is now refusing to return him to his rightful owners.

"When a dog is dying, it's close to death, it's suffering, somebody has to help the dog. I happen to be the only one willing to do it," she said.

Jake's owners, Steve and Lori Arnold, who have other dogs, came home to find Jake missing. They tracked down Grimes, who was promptly arrested for trespassing and theft. She still refuses to tell the Arnolds where their dog is.

The Arnolds admit Jake is old and suffering from arthritis and say they were about to have him put to sleep. But they deny he was lying on the ground for three days, and also deny that he was being neglected.

Tammy Grimes says Jake has seen two vets while in hiding and is doing better. The Arnolds are outraged that she refuses to return their dog, and think she should go to jail. Grimes says, "I'd rather spend my life in jail than give a dog back to someone who would just put him back on the end of a chain and let him die there."

Grimes has a court appearance set for Thursday where she faces the possibility of fines and probation.

p.s. I saw the clip of this and guess what...all of their other dogs are chained.
LOSERS!

OMG, such a sad, sad story! Why do these people have dogs? It's sickening to think about how little protection animals have. I hope the poor little fellow is in a much better condition and gets lots of love as he deserves. Thanks, My3labs, for sharing this story.

I've been following the website and it says that they now have a vet ready to testify that the dog was abused and neglected.
It is absolutely appalling how people treat animals. I don't understand why someone would get a dog and then stick it out in the backyard for it's entire life. And, the fact that it is legal to do so sickens me.
The site mentioned that the dog is doing much better now after seeing a vet, having a bath, and a few good meals.

I used to foster my dog (years ago) after I moved into living situations that turned out to be intolerable to him. These 2 sisters used to care for him lovingly and I'd visit ever few weeks. They also did adoptions with cats and dogs sent to them by overcrowded animal shelters. They made all their potential adoptive families sign an agreement that if the sisters did a surprise visit (which they always did) post-adoption and saw the animal left outside unsupervised, the adoptive family agreed that the sisters could take the animal back without their permission. They followed through on this as well and whenever they saw a dog chained in a yard, they took the dog back.

Humans are such ignorant, stupid shits. Dogs are social animals and should never be just chained outside. Someone should chain that couple to a tree for 3 days and let them have that experience.

I couldn't agree more.
I've posted about this at that "other" place, but my all of my neighbors do not deserve the privilege of having their dogs. One is left outside all day and night. She's never walked or played with. My other neighbors can't seem to keep their dog in their house or in their yard and Max is always running loose around the neighborhood. I've seen him as far away as a mile from their house and have brought him home numerous times. Then, my other neighbor has two dogs and two cats. One of her cats is over 40 lbs and can barely walk. They also smoke in the house and their smallest dog (a min pin) is having breathing problems. My neighbor called me once because one of her cats (not the fat one) was peeing blood and moaning. It was a friday night and her vet was closed for the weekend. I told her to take him to the emergency clinic and she didn't want to because she was supposed to go out that night. I let her have it and she ended up taking the cat in.
 Hugs to all the dogs, cats, bunnies, cows, pigs, chickens (etc) that are being treated badly.
