Hi everyone! The forum was offline today, due to a database error. If you check the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page, and keep a copy of the email address, you can let me know about any problems in the future, if you should be unable to access the site. :)

The last 2 days, the forum has been freezing or just not been available. Is anyone else having any problems?

Twice yesterday when I was trying to post. In fact, I'm not sure if the second of those posts went through. I had a message which said that the forum was unavailable. I didn't even sign off.

I got a bunch of database error emails. Its something that seems to happen occaisionally, that gets taken care of automatically.

It went really slow on me yesterday and then ground to a halt. I went away and pretended to do some housework and when I came back it was OK again. :psing: :excited:

Welcome back everyone! I'm sorry I had to take the forum offline at such short notice. We got hacked yesterday morning my time. Tech Support suggested an upgrade to prevent this from happening again, so I decided to take us offline immediately to get upgraded. There were some problems, which is why it took so long, but we are back.

I usually ignore threats. Fuzzy told me that the most dangerous people are usually those who don't make threats. They just attack without warning.

I'm going to shut the forum down tomorrow morning, my time, probably around ten or so, because we need to get more disk space. I've never done this before, so I don't know whether they will have to do anything to the forum itself, but I'd rather take it offline while they do whatever it is they will do. I don't know how long this will take either, but hopefully they'll be done by the end of the day.

Isn't there a way you can check yourself if you have more disk space available now?

Maybe they did upgrade you, but forgot to mail you about it.

Yes, it was someone else. I won't be logging in as Fauxmage until this issue is resolved. I still haven't heard from them. They don't like to be prodded, but I don't like to be left hanging with no communication for so long either.

Now that things seem to be under better control in terms of whamming and registration errors, as soon as I get more disk space I am going to see about advertising this forum and getting a few actual vegans to join us. Tech support set a deadline of October 2, tomorrow, by which to respond to my request for more disk space, so hopefully I will get this resolved soon. I will most likely turn the forum off again tomorrow in anticipation of whatever they might need to do.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I've been doing pretty well for the last couple of years on the migraine front, but lately it seems like whenever there is a change in the weather, I get struck down. I'm in the middle of another, but I've popped in to let you all know that the servers are moving to another floor, and so the forum will be down for approximately an hour, sometime between 3 and 4 AM Tuesday morning, February 12, Eastern Standard time, or possibly even between 1 and 6 AM. They think its more likely to be between 3 and 4 though. So if you try to access the site and something weird happens, that might be it.

I hope this will mean fewer server problems in the future. :crossfingers:

They've released another version the forum software, so I am thinking about shutting the forum off next week, maybe on Tuesday, when I won't be so busy and distracted as I've been, and getting upgraded. Hopefully this time we will get a version that works with our servers. I still can't understand why other forums are running 3.7.0 and beyond without any of the problems we are stuck with. :(

I missed this at first.

My guess is that it depends on the kind of, or version of the software they run.

Sometimes stuff in the latest upgrades, also requires one of the latest versions of PHP or Mysql. If your server doesn't have that, you're bound to have trouble.

There is a new version of the software out, so I will be taking the forum offline on Monday morning my time, to try to get the upgrade done, and get our problems fixed for once and for all. Once we are working properly, I doubt very much that I will continue to upgrade. Until 3.7.0 came out, upgrades were no problem. Now it is a major ordeal, and I am getting really discouraged by having to deal with the same old errors over and over again.

Hello everyone! I will be taking the forum offline Monday afternoon, December 1st, my time, to do the upgrade. Upgrades don't take very long, as long as there are no problems, so hopefully we will be back online withing a few hours, after I have checked all the functions to see whether they are fixed or not. We are still having weird banning problems, and it is only a matter of time until the usergroup I have temporarily put you all in becomes a banned one, I fear, and there is no way to fix this without another software upgrade.

If VBulletin thinks I will be renewing my license next year they are nuts! As soon as we get a working upgrade that's IT!!! :tb:

Got the following message from my web host:

This notice is to inform of Major Power maintenance in our Data Center on Sat. Nov 6th starting at 10am EST. This urgent work will require all of our systems to be shutdown during the power work. This is unavoidable as this work is being done on the power feeds directly into the server racks which does not afford us UPS usage.
