So, today was like any other day. A new Petsmart had opened up in town and we were going to use the $5 coupon that came in the paper for cat stuff. That's it. So we walk in and this rescue group had some dogs. One of the volunteers had a dog on a leash, and she told us about the dog, and I looked in the fenced in dog area and saw this pretty dog with these adorable brown spots. So I was petting it and my husnad was looking at him and the other volunteer was telling us about him then she brought him out.

We got him!! My husband went up to the ATM to get the adoption $$ and I got to shop for dog stuff.

His name is Tuttle, Tut for short. I plan on changing it!!! He's an Italian Greyhound Mix.

We have 4 cats. 1 used to live with dogs, so when we brought Tut in she smelled him and walked away. The other one has been fluffed up since we brought Tut in, but he's really curious and watches him and follows him. The other one is half ignoring him half curious. The fourth hasn't come out yet--I think he knows!!!

So the lady that fostered him said if you put down newspapers, he'll go to the bathroom on that. So I put it by the back door and I saw pee on it later, so I took him outside and he pooped and I gave him a treat.

This is my first dog, so me and the kitties will have quite an experience with him!!

I know there's a way to post pictures on here, so if someone explains how to do it, I'll get some pictures of him on here!

Congratulations, Baba! I so miss having a dog but they really need loads more time than a cat plus we'd be evicted  . Good luck!

just open/edit the picture in picture-editor program such as MSPaint and resize then save as a new filename
(so you won't save the resized pic as your original :) )

Awwwwwwww! :colors::colors::colors:
He reminds me of my Fod a little, who is also a greyhound mix. He should get along fine with the cats. Fod loves them, and lets them lick his ears and bite his legs (they are love-bites, not mean ones, but they still hurt!).

What a great thing it is to adopt a needy animal! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

So far he's ignored the cats. He was napping on the couch and all 4 of them crept up to smell him. He's doing good so far!!

Oh, we renamed him Bajor. Better than 'Tut'!!

All I know is that he has some Italian Greyhound in him. I don't know much about dog breeds, so I couldn't even guess!

So his first night home was interesting. My husband went out, and I stayed home with Bajor. So I stayed up with him until midnight. Then when I tried to go to bed he got into bed with me and brought his rawhide, which he kept trying to bury in the covers. So I got up and sat on the couch. Bajor came with me and played a while, then fell asleep on me.
When my husband came home at like 1:30, I tried to go to bed and he came with me again!! My husband had to shut the door and keep him in the living room with him. I woke up at 4:00 in the morning to pee, and my husband was sleeping on the couch with Bajor sleeping with his head in his lap!

I got up early this morning for him. I took him outside and he peed. Then a few minutes after being outside he went and pawed at the back door. I took him back out and he pooped. This is exciting because I think he's realizing where to be let out to go to the bathroom! Yay!

AAawww, what a cute and smart doggie! :colors:

How very loving of you and your husband! When we first adopted Danny, I stayed up late with him for a while, too. The first couple of nights brought in some thunderstorms, so I slept on the couch to be near Danny. When my husband would come home, he'd roll over on his back. I think doggies are very appreciative when they get to have a family that loves them. :smallheart:

I tried letting Danny sleep in the bed with me, but he kept wanting to play!

Yeah, we've decided to put up a baby gate so he can't go in the bedroom. 2 of the cats sleep in the bed at night, and we don't want them kicked out by the dog. I tried to show them they had to go OVER the gate, but they just looked at me. So I cut them a little hole in the bottom!

So this morning (5:30am!) I get up and Bajor goes with me to the back door, I open it to take him out. He looks and walks away. Then I hear him peeing in the living room! Maybe it was too dark for him? The outside light is really crappy. Anyway, I'm like, "NO BAJOR!!" and he stops peeing and I get him outside. I watch and see him poop. Well, I didn't SEE the poop, so he could've just been pretending...I saw the poop squat. SO what's up with that?? What happened to being newspaper trained???

My mom had a similar problem with her dog, and still does to some extent. She thinks it might be because Boo (her dog) doesn't like the wet grass (from the dew). But, Boo is much smaller than Bajor, so of course I don't know if it's that Bajor doesn't like the wet grass (it tends to get Boo's tummy a little wet).

Or maybe he doesn't feel as comfortable in the yard yet, being new territory and it was still dark? (I might be way off -- just thinking out loud.)

That dog is so adorable, BabaGhannooj! And how wonderful that you went to the petstore to buy things for your cats and came back with a new friend and part of the family :D

I don't know about the peeing problem. Have you read anything about behavioral training for animals? He does seem very intelligent, so I don't even know if you'll have to do much of that to get him pee and poop trained...maybe he just needs some time to figure it out.

Hey--I haven't been on here in a while!

So today Bajor graduated from beginners training class at Petsmart! He got a certificate and everything. The trainer said that in our class, he's the most improved. Yay for my puppy!!

Wow, that's great news Baba! :cheer: Congratulations to Bajor, and you too, because doggy training classes are as much about teaching people as they are about teaching dogs. Sounds like you two are a good team. :agree:
