OK I've managed to transition to about 98% vegan or whatever, but I'm stuck on one thing. Giving up cheese and most dairy and eggs, no problem, but I still wimp out and can't manage to let go of having milk in my morning tea. I use canned milk. Is there a vegan product that is sort of equivalent in taste/consistency?

It's been such a long time since I last had cow milk that I don't remember the taste but I like soya milk. I have twice given tea with soya milk to non-vegans over the years. They both said the tea tasted all right. I think one of them said it tasted just the same as they usually have it.

If you don't like soya milk you could try oat, almond or rice milk. There's a pea milk available, too.

You can make any of these yourself - I believe almond milk is very easy to make - or buy them. Different brands might be slightly different in taste. You can get soya milk unsweetened or sweetened. I prefer the unsweetened. I use it in tea, coffee, cocoa, custard and to make porridge.

If you use soya in coffee the coffee might appear curdled if it's too strong. You just need to add more milk until the curdledlyness goes away.

Hi,

I've tried soya, oat and rice and in tea rice is my favorite. The only big difference I notice is the colour, I used to like milky tea so expect a lighter colour.

I drink black coffee now, actually much nicer. Being a coffee snob (never instant blurg!) milk just distracts from the coffee taste anyway :)

Whilst I was testing different milks I drank allot more green tea until I found one I liked.

I would say try different plants milks until you find one you like. Most of the time I have black coffee, sometimes I use soy in coffee/tea (Alpro has now adapted the recipe so it wont curdle) or oat milk. My Favourite thing to use though is Soy Single Cream - that might be similar to canned milk.

I've tried soya, almond and rice milk. I found rice too watery for my taste and didn't like almond... with soya, I only like one specific type of Alpro... so if you find one soya milk isn't to your taste, shop around.

Thanks guys. I'll start by trying the soy milk. I don't know if Alpro is sold here in California. But if it is I'll find it. thanks.

Oh sorry, I didn't know which country you were from (I think Alpro is rebranded in other countries - could be wrong though), apparently MimicCreme is very good and look delicious: http://store.veganessentials.com/mimiccreme-flavored-coffee-creamers-p3319.aspx

Thanks. I've found a soy 'creamer' called Silk. Nice taste to it.

I use Tam-Tov "Lavnoon" non-dairy creamer powder that works ok in coffee.

I bought some a couple of weeks ago ninjajane, but not actually tried it yet. I do really like coffee made with rice-milk. We went onto rice-milk because Mrs Bladerunner became worried about us having too many things made with soya.

Sainsbury's have a 2 for £2 on Alpro milks at the moment. Almond is thicker than rice milk so for me works better in tea.

I agree about the soya thing, its a shame theres non non soya yogurts about.

You can get Redwood pea protein yoghurts from H & B but 2 or 3 out of the last 10 cartons that I've bought have been very watery when opened.

You can get Rice & Rice desserts from here (http://www.dietaryneedsdirect.co.uk/cnb/shop/dietaryneeds-direct?op=catalogue-products-null&prodCategoryID=5) or here (http://www.macrobioticshop.co.uk/brands/rice-rice), they make a nice change from soya sometimes

Or maybe just make a traditional rice pudding but using rice/oat/almond milk?
