"Everyone has a story of animals. Everyone has had some unique experience with them. Sometimes they are of domestic animals. Sometimes wild. Sometimes painful and sometimes wonderful. Everyone has been touched by animals in some way, either in life or in dreams, and always the difficulty is in determining what it means.
In our modern world we have separated ourselves from Nature. It is something alien, something to be studied, and unfortunately, it is often something to be taken advantage of. What we fail to remember and realize though is that no matter how much we cloak ourselves in civilization, we are always part of the natural world. Everything that happens to us has repercussions upon Nature, and everything that happens to the natural world has repercussions upon us."
This is from a book called Animal-Wise, by Ted Andrews. It hopes to teach the reader to attune to animals and nature by explaining the spiritual meaning and significance of birds, mammals, insects, arachnids, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and other sea life. It is a very interesting study of Native American style natural wisdom and spirituality, and lots of fun to read!
