My life is in a bit of an uproar atm and for some remarkably stupid reason I thought getting my hair cut would help.
I walked into the hair salon with hair down to my waist and walked out with hair 5cm (2inches) long. :crying:
Soooo, can anyone recommend any vitamins or other supplements that will encourage healthy, fast hair growth, please?

Wow, big change, Phoenix! :)
I can't think of any supplements but I will do a bit of research and get back to this thread if I find anything. Fauxmage/Bowwowmeow and Delicious are always helpful in the area of nutritional advice. thevegantwins and Rainbow come up with good advice and links too. I'm sure someone will post something to help you. :agree:

Soooo, can anyone recommend any vitamins or other supplements that will encourage healthy, fast hair growth, please? How strange you should post this! I just posted at Tigger's site about a dream I had that was caused by doing something very similar, though my hair was not as long as yours, and I didn't cut it as short.
Exercise in general increases metabolism, so increase your level. Ironically, so does eating more food, so try to balance the two. Silica is very imnportant for the health of hair, skin, and nails. I would supplement silica if I was really anxious for increased hair growth. It comes from the horstail plant, so is vegan, as long as the capsule is not made from animal gelatin.
There is a home recipe for a follicle stimulator. Find some 80 proof or higher vodka, or other spirits, if you can get vegan ones, and dissolve 2 tablespoons of powdered cayenne pepper in a quart of the alcohol. Let it steep for two weeks, then strain and dampen your scalp with the mixture. The capsicum is supposed to increase circulation, so ought to aid in increasing the growth rate. These effects will all be subtle, though. Sometimes growth rates depend upon your age, and cannot be manipulated to any great degree.
You can also grab your hair very close to the roots, and gently use it to move your scalp around in circles, repeating in sections all over your head, and also pull, very gently. This too will increase circulation.
I bet it looks cute, though, Phoenix, you just can't see it because you are still in shock. Everyone liked my hair when I cut it off, though I didn't cut it off for the sake of my looks as much as because I was driving a convertible with the top down, and I was tired of having my hair getting tangled all the time.
Its too bad winter is coming soon for you. Hair always grows faster in the summer.

Thin, straight, shit-brown hair that does nothing except plaster itself to my head like a hair hat.

Thank you, you are all so sweet! :agree: I think I'll give the vodka a miss but I'll get some silica tomorrow.

Are you sure you don't like short hair, phoenix? It really depends on the cut, it can be really cute, you know... I had long hair for the longest time and was convinced that anything else wouldn't fit me UNTIL I got a really good cut and absolutely loved it - short with longer bangs. It actually made me look younger and more stylished. I would not swear off short alltogether if I were you, maybe you just have a style that doesn't fit you and that can be easily corrected... Right know I have a short neck texturized bob with long bangs. The color is dark purple!:updn:

Hi Soynut. My hair cut is - or was - really flattering. It's just not me.
I think short hair can look wonderful on some women :agree: but I miss my long hair ... even if it is a hassle to look after. :)

My hair is about an inch on top. Less at the sides and back. I am thinking of growing my moustache again. I saw a bald bloke on telly this evening and he looked much better with his tash than he would have without it. His moustache was like mine used to be - thinish and well clipped. My hair will probably be going the same way as his. The trouble is, my tash has a few white hairs in it, which is why I shaved it off a few years ago.
I cut my hair on Saturday and I've made quite a good job of it.

How do you cut the hair on the back of your head without making a complete dog's breakfast of it? :rubchin: :D

I always mess up when I try to cut my own hair, even in the front. My fringe/bangs gets all cock-eyed.

How do I cut the back?
I put a biggish mirror on the bathroom windowsill and stand with my back to it. I hold a small mirror in one hand and the electric clippers in t'other. I shave up from the bottom, using the longest attachment. Then use shorter attachments, not going up so far each time, until it is fairly neatly tapered. I finish off with scissors, by running my hand up the back of my head and allowing hair to protude between my fingers. I cut off any that seem too long. It helps if you can prop the small mirror somewhere, otherwise you have to cut the hair with the scissors by turning your head to look in the big mirror. It can be done. I am living proof.
If anyone is interested, I have just released my latest video. It is called 'The Buffoon's Guide To Hairdressing'. It comes with a pair of scissors and a pack of bandages.
The hair on top is an inch long but the bit in front is about 2 inches. It would look like a brush if it was only 1 inch. The extra inch allows it to flop over to one side. A bit like the rest of me.

How do you cut the bottom evenly though? When you put your arm over your head with the scissors, the arm would be angled so cutting evenly across the bottom would be quite difficult, isn't it?

I cut the very bottom with the clippers held like a dagger which has the blade on the little finger side. The cutting edge of the clippers is also on the little finger side.
Buy my video to see how well this technique works. I call it the backstabber manoeuvre.
