Yesterday I took my half sprouted chikpeas & lentils and threw them in a pan with some grapeseed oil, then I mixed about a tablespoon of condensed liquid smoke with maybe 1/3 cup of water and poured that in the pan, stirring until the beans were hot, and shaking some salt on them.
They turned out better than I expected. Their flavor reminded me of smoked Cornish hen (which I haven't had for years).
I doubt the liquid smoke flavoring is very healthy though. When I asked a lady at the store where to find it, she commented that it was her dead husband's favorite thing to cook with.
Anyway, I just wondered what smoked beans would taste like, and of course the answer was "tastes like chicken"!.
