On account of me not knowing what I was doing, and hating to ask for help. I lost most of our smilies. Some will be missing forever from the old posts, but the collection needed better organization, and now that I have learned what I did wrong, I will be able to make sure that it won't happen again the next time we upgrade.

So the smilie list is in the process of being repopulated. I kept copies of almost all of them, and found replacements for all but a few that I can't find any more. The emoticon index I used is no longer online, so a couple of smilies are gone for good. But we still have probably the biggest collection on a forum around!

A lot of them had their names changed, and the text to replace them changed too. I have printed out a list of the old text, so as I edit the smilies, many will probably reappear. Its just going to take a while.

The text to replace is, for example, : ) which will yield :)

You can either click on a smilie from the window, or type the text, if you know it. Most of our smilies have words between the :s, like : chef :, which, when typed without the spaces between the word "chef" and the :s, will give :chef:

I just have to go through and retype the changed names. I'm quitting soon, though, since I am very tired, and have been at this for hours. :yawn:

Folks, I have fixed the names of all the smilies that show in the smilie window, but I haven't gotten to the extras that show when you click on "More". Try not to use any but the ones that show in the window, until further notice. If their names change after you use them, they will disappear from your posts, and be replaced by text that doesn't work any more. Its no big deal if you do, but I'll probably be done with the smilies I've uploaded so far by tomorrow.

Ahhhhh! I must have looked at over 20,000 images over the last few days, looking for some of the smilies I lost, and finding new ones. I cannot yet find the dancing daisy, dancing pig, and a cute little burro, but I have found all the other lost smilies, and quite a few more new ones. Its interesting that many of the smilies I still have have not appeared in my latest searches, so now I will be more careful in storing backup copies. Though now i have learned from my mistakes and I probably won't lose them again. :crossfingers:

We have new categories, since I found so many new animals its just easier to keep them organized that way. I also started a collection of food related smilies which will be appearing soon in a post window near you.

Most of our smilies are lost, and I can't find any of the image files for the smilies, buttons, logos, status icons, avatars, etc. I am waiting for Tech Support to find them for me. I don't understand why some of our smilies are still available when most of them have turned into text, and I don't want to spend days reloading them into a different file. But if they are lost then I'll have to. At least I didn't lose them this time.

I'm afraid that if they don't find them I will have more work to do than I did before. Its very frustrating to wait for hours and hours without any updates from them. That's what takes so long. Its not the work, its the waiting game. I just don't want to start anything new until I hear from Tech Support, because the easiest way to get them back is to simply move them en masse from the old folder to the new one. I just can't find the folder they are supposed to be in.

For a long while now I have been collecting the odd smilie or two, and have gotten around to adding them while I was mucking about in the cp. I have also edited some of the smilie names, and the text you can type if you don't actually click on a smilie image, which means that in the old posts, the smilies will disappear, and be replaced by the old text. If I come across any I'll edit them, and you guys can too if you want. I just wanted to explain why some of the old posts might look weird, like :wigglebottom: instead of :wigglebutt:. There aren't a whole lot I've done this to, but I don't like some of the names and text associated with them, and I should have edited them a long time ago.
