Maybe its just me but I don't feel like buying green leafy things that smell like a dish rag (with mildew). They may shower produce with water all day, but it doesn't smell edible to me at that point. It must be old when it smells that way (because I know how it smells fresh). Maybe the grocers don't consider that to be a selling point anymore (as long as it looks okay).

Hmm, I've never smelled anything like that in a produce department. Unless there is gourmet cheese festering alongside the strawberries and pears.

Around here the kale smells like that half the time, and tonight it was most every green leafy thing I got close to (in more than one store), including cilantro! I didn't like the prices anyway, but that's a different story.

So it doesn't hurt to actually sniff the produce to make sure it isn't affected with dish rag doodoo, since it could hurt to eat it (I don't think that washes off). :yuck:

If it stinks - I wouldnt eat it. Unless it supposed to be some 'gourmet' delicacy and I was feeling playful..

Speaking of that, has your body odour ever made you hungry? I've caught a whif of myself and wanted to eat French bread for example. :D

I just sniffed the kale in my fridge. Not much smell at all. Just sorta green and fresh.

They never have fresh kale in my area. I have to drive almost 40 miles to get kale. It suuucks!
On the topic of "fresh"; I was in a new grocery store on Saturday with my fiance, and picked up a bag of potatoes to smell for rot. First time I actually found a rotten bag. I literally gagged and threw the bag across the aisle, it was rancid! One of the stock boys near us turned to his superior and said, "Dude, we got another rotten one.". I'll never shop at that store again.

I stopped buying kale, even when fresh, because $3 for an 8 oz bunch seems high. That's $6 per pound for organic kale, and non-organic kale is high upon the pesticide residue list.
Yesterday I found some fresh organic cilantro. I know some people think that stinks when it's fresh.

Every once in a while I hanker for dinosaur aka lacinato kale, and I have to have some.

Broccoli is the worst smelling vegan type thing I've encountered when it goes bad. :broccoli2:

You might have to wait a week for it to become a spare bunch. :poop:

He would slaughter a goat if he thought it would help his ratings. Just like he slaughtered a sheep without prior stunning and killed some baby chickens after rescuing them from certain death.
