It is certainly a lot more convenient to be vegan than it used to be, at least here in the Bay Area. It really is encouraging to see prepared foods available in stores now that a vegan can choose when time is short. Homemade is the best, but when you are in a rush, pick up something like. . .

Interesting that ingredients need not be 100% organic for the finished product to be called organic.

I've wanted to try those Donna tamales but they're not available on the east coast yet. I know they can be mail-ordered by toooo expensive. I don't mind vegan convenience foods occasionally particularly something like tamales which I'd never make myself.

I tried the Jalfrezi simmer sauce tonight and it is delicious. I sauteed an onion then added a can of chickpeas, 2 diced carrots, 1/4 diced cauliflower and 2 cups of spinach at the very end. The sauce is perfect. Everything was organic and the entire meal costs under $10 for several servings. :yea:
The jalfrezi and the madras are vegan.

Jalfrezi
There are certain phrases most Americans don't normally hear around the dinner table. No one says, for instance, "Could you pass the fenugreek." And rarely does one hear, "This is delicious, Mom, but it needs just a touch more turmeric." That's why we love Jalfrezi. Roughly translated, it means "stir-fry." And the aforementioned spices help give it an exotic medium-hot kick. Oh, one more thing about those spices: In our simmer sauces, they're all organically grown and painstakingly selected, just as you'd expect from any Seeds of Change® product. Which is important, because you never know when your spouse is going to say, "Honey, could you pass the cardamom shaker?"
Ingredients
Water, tomatoes in juice*, onions*, tomato puree* (water, tomato paste*), red bell pepper*, sunflower oil*, coconut*, green bell peppers*, evaporated cane sugar*, tapioca starch*, sea salt, cilantro*, lemon juice*, garlic*, cumin*, coriander*, ginger*, mustard seeds*, turmeric*, chili pepper*, fenugreek*, cayenne pepper*, black pepper*, cardamom*.
* = Certified Organic

Just how spicy is it? I've become quite a baby since my stomach probs that I don't eat food that's more than mildly spicy.

I consider it mildly spicy but I probably have a slightly skewed view of spiciness.

Yeah, I think that might be too spicy for me when I checked out their website.
Anyways, I just ordered a bunch of really unhealthy vegan treats from the veganstore. I ordered Teese, some Sjak's pb cups, donuts, cinnamon rolls, and Twinkeys. It won't be shipped until the Teese comes in (sometime next week)...I hope I'll like the Teese:confused:
Here's a pic at the vegan store of Teese:

I just had a sandwich with Teese. I didn't even melt it. It is very tasty. Me and 2 other vegans split a 3lb order. It came to $10 for each of us for a pound. It is very mozarella-like, more so than vegan gourmet. I don't know how it melts yet since I didn't even bother melting it.

You probably have to use heat.

I ate a homemade Teese pizza this weekend and it was yummy. I do think it's led to my gaining a couple of pounds though! I also think it's not something I'd want to eat on a regular basis (like no more than a couple times a year) because I think my system isn't used to that consistency/fat content or something:confused:

I had convience food today myself, depending on your definition of the stuff.
Opened a can of refried beans, used half a bag of frozen "mexian stirfry vegetables"(as the package says, tortila wraps and "wrap sauce"
heated the refrieds, heated the other veggies, did them on a wrap and folded it, then shortly fried the "folded burrito" in a skillet. :dribble:

Sounds good, 1V and you gave me an idea. I have a tin of refried beans w/ salsa and some sprouted tortillas. I can do what you suggest then add sliced avocado and hot sauce.

I've never had refried beans. Nor have I had first-time fried beans. They might be good on toast.
See post 15, http://www.thesaucyvegan.com/showthread.php?p=67292#post67292 for recipe for refried beans.

Refried beans are yummy :yum:. They do look like cat food though, or at least the ones I had did.
