I bought a Redwood Celebration Roast but I ate it already. :o

So I think I am going to buy one of those stuffed roasts things with cranberries.

I don't know about others here but the first thing I do when I buy a Celebration roast is ditch the gravy. I just think it's nasty and does not have a nice taste.

The last time I had a CR the gravy was fine...

I will most likely have a plate with two slices of bread on it. On top of each will be a potato waffle. On top of them will be either tinned tomatoes or baked beans. On top of that will be some olive oil. Delicious. I haven't had any mince pies for years. Nothing suitable that isn't filled with lots of sugar. Why do they put sugar into something that has lots of sweet dried fruit?

I've heard a lot about those celebration roasts. I might have to locate one next year.

As for this year, I've managed to convince my mother to make me fake spagetti bolognese...so I am on top of the world. It might sound odd, for Christmas, but it's my favourite food in the universe, and if I'm coming off the diet for a couple of days, I might as well pig out on that! I managed to get hold of some vegan-friendly garlic bread to go with it, so I'm really, really looking foward to the meal!

I've also got an absolute treasure trove of chocolate to work through, and other such goodies!

Garlic bread can be made by mixing garlic with margarine and spreading it on crusty bread.

Thanks I always wondered how they made that stuff. :hungry:

My pleasure. If my oven worked I would give it a try. I saw someone making garlic butter once. She crushed raw garlic cloves and just mixed them in the butter. Or was it just the juice from the crushed garlic? I didn't have any because it was butter. But the crusty loaf looked and smelled like the normal type when it came out of the oven.

Yumm, will need to try making it :D

And then of course you'll need people to test it for you :D

Run your bread over a candle flame, til it gets toasty, rub a peeled clove of garlic across the toasty part, and drizzle with olive oil. This is the official Italian way, though they don't use candles.

My brother and I used to do raclette, where you melt cheese over a candle flame, when I still ate cheese. I've never tried it with fauxmage. I haven't even thought of it in years. Might be fun.

I'm going to make a wood gas stove (see the My Bungalow thread), and use it to heat a tin or pan of some sort. This will become an oven. It should heat the bread up nicely.

Oh that's good. Toasting food over candle flames is fun though. :agree:

Can't decide what to eat Christmas-dinner-pudding wise :(

Home made vegan banoffee pie? Or a Vbites cake? (I have 4 to get through, and they are absolutely heavenly...)

Would it be too piggish to eat a slice of banoffee and all four cakes? :p

Yes.

Well, you did ask.

There are lots up here - loose one, some in bags, and some still on their stalks. They are probably the best green veggies for stews.

I managed to find some brussel sprouts today on stalks! :)

What - you went sprout stalking? Better than deer stalking.

I actually felt like I had achieved something which I know is quite sad but you should of seen the way I grabbed and bagged those brussel sprouts....I put my vegan ninja skills to good use.

Sprout on, sprout off....Miyagi taught me well. ;)

My family and I all enjoyed a butternut squash soup I made for starters and then I enjoyed a Redwood's Celebration Roast complete with roast potatoes, broccoli, red cabbage and cranberry sauce. For dessert I had Christmas pud with vanilla Swedish Glace. I had a couple of vegan truffles later in the afternoon.

Never eating again either. Well, maybe until breakfast tonmorrow :)

Well, with my iron self-discipline I ate no more than is normal for me. :book:

That sounds delicious! :o

Wish I had self discipline, but unfortunately, I have none...my body just had to have tons of Christmassy foods...

It's three on boxing day and I still feel too full to eat...and kinda ill. Ahaha.

Well, you are going to have to suffer for it in the gym. I hope it was worth it. :hungry:

At the risk of sounding completely stupid, what is a Redwood's Celebration Roast? Where do I get one? Are they expensive? Thanks. :)

Redwoods is located in the UK. I don't know what sort of thing the Celebration Roast is supposed to resemble. Here we can get the Tofurky roast, which is supposed to be like turkey, and Field Roast, which also makes a Celebration Roast. I have no idea if they are similar. I prefer the Field Roast. The make some really good sausages too.

ChenLi
02-07-2010, 06:59 PM
Yeah, celebration roast is UK only I think. It has 'turkey' slices, 'turkey' gravy and 'sausages' wrapped in 'bacon'.

The next time Heather pops in for a cuppa I'll ask her to export some more lines to the US.
