I only wish I knew something about proper website design cos I'd rather make my own from scratch than use Moonfruit's template based system. Its not bad but flexibility is limited.

I took some pictures of the fireworks on July 4th. I know vegans are supposed to disapprove of fireworks, but at least where I live they light them off where they can't hurt any animals, which isn't always the case. Although I am sure that if they had no safe place to light them they would do it anyway.

I still like them though, because I am a bit of a pyromaniac. :o :flame: So I decided to try photographing them, since I've never done it before.

Some came out looking pretty close to the real thing:

Cool. I like taking pics of fireworks although I've had varied results so far, I've concluded that you absolutely need to use a tripod and you have to get yourself in the right position early. And I've found it helps if you've got the right lens on too...

veggiesosage
08-08-2007, 12:05 PM
I go there a lot. They've opened about 3 more rooms there over the past few years so its not as cramped as it was.

Interestingly, I found out just recently that there used to be another pub built into the castle rock, not sure when it closed down though. This might actually be where it was because that 'rock' in the centre between the 2 doors isn't rock at all, it sounds like fibreglass when you knock on it.

veggiesosage
08-20-2007, 01:28 PM
I very nearly made a fool of myself by asking him to say 'And now...from Norwich...' but stopped myself just in time realising that it wasn't actually him who said that.

Norman Lovett was the original 'Hollie' in Red Dwarf, Richard Herring used to be part of 'Lee and Herring' although don't know if they made it across to the US, Mitch Benn does musical parodies and is excellent, Fred McCauley is a Scottish stand up who has a habit of popping up on panel shows like 'Have I got news for You' etc, Adam Hills is an Aussie comedian but despite that is very funny, Shazia Mirza isn't that well known but she's wickedly funny, very interesting takes on race, women and suicide bombing, erm, have I missed anybody?

Anyway the Edinburgh Fringe is brilliant and well worth a visit. You can do it properly and book in advance so you get to see the big artists but its probably more fun to amble into town, get a beer and then say, 'oh lets go and see if we can find a show'. If the first thing you want to see is sold out then there'll be another 500 or so shows along in a minute.

1V, I suspect we probably could still build something like this. There are still a number of craftsmen and women about the place who restore structures like this cos unfortunately they don't stay up on their own forever!

But of course, many of these structures date from 12/13/14 century and the idea of working through the architectural issues back then with nothing more than a quill pen (ie no PC or calculator) is mind boggling.

I think thats one of the reasons I like photographing churches so much, aesthetically, they were definitely a bit of a golden age of architecture.

Countryfile has announced their photograph competition for this year. The theme is animals in action. No, not Eric Burden and The Animals on stage. No domestic or zoo animals.

Might give this a try this year, although I find animals difficult enough to photograph at the best of times (not very good at snapping things that move).

You don't have one of those cameras where you expose the film by taking the lens cap off for three seconds, do you? They aren't very good for movement.

They're really cool. What software do you use to stitch the photos together? It does a really good job.

Top one is fun to spot the ghosts and the people that managed to get in more than one of the shots. The guy striding on the left managed to be in 3 frames and also is ghosted in one frame.

I know this was ages ago, but Sainsbury's sometimes get purple carrots. I buy them because they're purple. They are treated the same as ordinary carrots and when they are cooked they only retain a purple ring around the outside *is disappointed* They taste about the same. Maybe a bit better (more carroty).

Purple food.... yay!

Its a Digital Subscriber Line. Its a high speed Internet connection that comes through the phone line. I disconnected my satellite TV a while ago, 'cause I never watch it, and I can't get cable in the marina, so DSL is my only option for getting off dial-up. Its much faster, I can use the phone when I am online, but its more costly too. :sigh:

I got an infrared filter for my camera a while ago. I had to learn how to use it. It is pitch black, and you can't see a thing once you put it on the end of the lens. You have to use a tripod and a long exposure too. Here are my first attempts, just of what's in my front yard:

Bowwowmeow
06-15-2011, 03:46 PM
Thank you.

I took some of them quite earlier in the day than others, and drained varying degrees of color out of them.

Gliondrach
06-15-2011, 04:34 PM
Right. Did you drain the colour using the camera or photonstop?

Bowwowmeow
06-15-2011, 05:47 PM
I shot them as RAW files, so they do need "processing", as real film would need to be processed into prints in a darkroom. RAW files are like having a negative to make prints from.

Infrared photos come off the camera as very dim red and black images. You can't make much out til you "develop" them, but it's not what most people think of as "photonshopping". :p

Oh! I really like those. Especially the 3rd one down with the sun or whatever behind the big leaf tree (it looks like at least).

They're all really good though. It's interesting how it almost looks like there's ice and snow. :)

Bowwowmeow
06-15-2011, 11:16 PM
Thank you. It would look like a snowy landscape if the sky didn't look so black. Some of the trees look cottony too, because while the shutter is open for 30 seconds, they get blown about in the wind.

Yeah the third one down with the orange sky is two trees, a very conical redwood tree behind a huge deciduous large-leafed tree I haven't identified yet, with the sun setting behind them. I had only just uploaded it and hadn't even had a chance to click on my photostream to see it when someone on flickr managed to see it and leave me a nice comment. I don't know how they manage so quickly on there! It's really nice to be appreciated though, since I really don't know what I am doing just yet. I still have a lot to learn about how to process the images.

nagev
06-15-2011, 11:49 PM

Bowwowmeow
06-16-2011, 01:36 AM
I did these with Arcsoft Photoimpression, once I turned them from RAW to JPEG.
