Sorry I don't mean to start any inter forum bad relations but I just joined Vegan freaks after seeing an advert on a veggie forum for them, and even me as a vegan for so long and done the things I have have asked them to remove my account almost straight after signing up. I have to say my inner voice was telling me not to join and now I wished I hadn't - Scary!!
You are basically told what you have to write... it is incredibly militant.....OK I have done my time as vegan police but whoa!! I am afraid they are going to put people of veganism not encourage it - scary me thinks... they are basically telling people what they can write and if they dare write anything remotely to there disliking they ban them from what I have read ...I joined for a challenge as I had already grasped they were going to be hard work but bloody hell even I don't need that in my life!!
I even put my intro in my signature colour of purple and a moderator removed the colour - what??? and told me I needed to write more about myself - what???? did they want my blood group and next of kin too???
Sorry just having a rant!!
I will stick to more friendly and encouraging forums like Saucy vegan and Tribal Living xxxx thank goddess you guys are here is all I can say xxxx

I'm sure that's what they do, "not encouraging" it.
That place is a place for the frustrated vegans who climb on their pedestal to pronounce they are better then every one else.
And a place where people are sure they can pick a fight if they want one.
Imho, those people aren't even vegans cause they don't seem to understand that much of animal rights.
That site and their attitude is unworthy to carry the name vegan imho.

So true 1vegan ...sadly!!
They seem to lack compassion for human animals which to me is part of animal rights too!!

That sounds terrible to have a forum like that..when I was looking for a vegan forum I came across Vegan freaks but lucky I ended up coming here instead, that definitely would have put me off trying to socialize (if that's what you would call it..) with other vegans.

I've never even looked at the site but their demands do seem very strange.

I think they should be able to stand up to some honest critique.
I joined there when it was very new, before they got huge and changed their policies. It was a nice friendly place, but somehow I drifted away.
Then a while ago I returned, and did enjoy some serious AR discussion with Gary Francione, Roger Yates, and Sean Day. Yes, it is not the place for people whose feelings are easily hurt! But when an anti-intellectual movement began to alienate some of the really good debaters, it got boring, and I left.
They are also strikingly anti-religious, especially anti-Christian, and though I am an atheist myself, I am not into spiritual belief bashing.
I do agree wholeheartedly with their hardcore AR ethics though. No complaints there.

Aye that I do too :)
....but sadly they alienated me before I even got into the main forum... it's not that I offend easily but wow they did a job on me you should see the thread - they were damm rude to me!! which provoked me to give it back unfortunately ...well that is the result of many years of chanting and getting lippy on demos etc hehehe ... like Paul I didn't write enough about myself!! But what they have to remember some folks don't want to as it may jeopardize what they maybe doing in real life!! Ok that might sound a bit extreme but forums are known to the 'powers that be' and they do monitor them believe me!!
Actually a friend of mine looked into their policies a little bit more and he said that it is run by a US-based commercial organisation and one of the small print bits say they openly and perfectly prepared to pass your personal info to the feds if asked for it.
So for a forum that is so hard core what are they doing? I wouldn't want to write anything on there if you know what I mean. I would never hand anything over in relation to AR .. I would rather my forum got closed down than grass on anyone!!
I know of a court case where a similar forum to one I run was mentioned and that ended up having transcripts of posts read out in the court room. Mind you this wasn't AR but it was about a huge protest going on about a gas pipe line being laid.
But hey ho :)

I was put in purgatory for using a roll eyes smiley...then I got banned. They really are up their own ass there.

If they banned Chenli for using a smiley why didn't they do something about the people who attacked Stormy? Very strange. Perhaps it's become infiltrated by scum from the animal abusing industries who try to entrap people in some way.

It sounds like you can put questionmarks behind their veganism and whether they are vegan out of love and compassion for the animals or something. Being anti everything and banning people for silly reasons does not get you ver far, imho.

I have to agree I once joined it and peddle stall vegans who do more harm than good to the movement by criticising those trying is what came to mind to me.
As an old hat vegan I offered help and advice to a person who posted some typical new vegan questions and I got slated by a few for not saying Do this, do that, Do the other.
To top it all off I lost my log in info never had any emails or support back to help me so I rejoined then got a life ban for making 2 accounts, well forget them I say, obvious looking to damage veganism not improve it for all.

I got banned a number of years back because I dare suggest they add a bit of colour to the forum header!
They are the most humourless bunch of Vegans I have ever met. Bob Torres podcast is also the most narcissistic on the internet, he spends most of the time talking about himself.
p.s This is my first post here but I won't be suggesting adding any colour to the header here! Not because you might ban me but because it is already very colourful! :uhuh:
In retrospect the dull, colourless header that Vegan Freaks forums had probably was a very good reflection of that forum.
Suits you sir! :agree:

We do take suggestions here. We may ignore them completely, but we won't ban anyone for making them :p
We also have a duller skin in the style chooser a the bottom left corner of the page. It's called "Standard". Most of the others are way more colorful than our default. Some people can't take it though.

This thread is all to funny (and reassuring :P) to me as myself and several other people at another vegan forum went looking for a new forum just the other day and ended up at VF. We thought "Oh wow, this looks like a great place"... until we started reading the board in depth and realized how freaking militant they are. We were astounded because people as out there as they are are looked at as rather the fruitcakes of our veg and vegan board.

Managed to join Vegan freaks again to see if I could and they deleted my second post as it was not serious enough and this was in the FOOD section! :D
DAM!!!.. they are so uptight they could make diamonds from clenching coal with their butt cheeks!
I await my second ban from Vegan Freaks which should take all of 2 minutes as I said the Admin were a bunch of humourless fascists. :blinkwave:

I think they only have admin staff left who admin each other in a admin type loop. A bit like Mr Smith from the Matrix they can only stand their own smell. Your are either admin or you are a potential threat to the smooth adminning of the admin.
I thought I was the 'one' and could save them from themselves but they did not agree.

Perhaps it's an ad hoc, ad infinitum-type of ad min that finds it can ad equately ad vise and ad dress ad vantageously ad herents of veganism without ad vertising for members or ad mitting its lack of ad miring, ad oring, ad vanced, ad venturous ad vocates.

I joined again to see what it was like now, banned after just under 100 posts for 'duplicate account'...
First they weren't willing to accept Palin is worse than Obama...then they had the nerve to tell others that people cannot say they converted people because it's "bragging", "egotistical" etc. They expect people not to take credit for converting people because people make the 'choice' to be vegan. Yeah, and the fucking world made the 'choice' to give women the vote with no persuasion what so ever !
So fucking uptight there it's untrue..
excuse my french, just pissed off.

I am still a member of Veganfreaks. I joined originally around 2005 because I enjoyed the podcasts. Back then it was quite a chilled out place but I also drifted and ended up going to veganforum. I recently went back there and was told I was in purgatory.
TBH It looks like Fort Knox - not a very welcoming or civilised forum at all. I do feel that it is not doing veganism any favours. Veganism is a very small minority, and big headedness is very unbecoming. Anyway I have no inclination to go back there, because of all the red-tape just to be able to have the 'privilege' to post in the main forum. It is a shame because there were some people there i knew.
One funny incident. I did know one chap back in the day, and now he was admin, and of course had no memory of me. So...yeah they are a bit uptight. It is a shame really. I was thinking the other day that on the internet there seems to be loads of vegans, however one trip to the supermarket and you see how few there are.
So..veganfreaks are a bunch of freaks. Veganforum has a crazed dictator who bans people for fun. Thank..goodness this place is 'normal'.

It seems to be incredibly hard to join theveganforum. I tried joining, got told I hadn't signed up properly in an email but it didn't state what I'd done wrong yet told me to try again, so I did, got the same message, and then I try again...but registration is disabled, all in the space of 24hrs !

They were going introduce a system where you had to post in a blood sample so they could record all members DNA before you could join but they decided it might put some people off.

Well I managed to join the vegan forum...within 2 days I can't post anymore. My thread about Bruce (same one as I posted on here) was deleted, my account moderated so I couldn't post or use an avatar or pm' etc.
I sent this via the contact us form on there:
For some reason, I've had a thread deleted for no reason at all, and my account moderated to the point I can't pm, can't post without moderation, can't post threads, can't view the user groups I'm signed up to, etc.
I've been given no reason at all why this has occured and I've not broken any rules!
Got this back in return:
Hi,
you obviously don't understand our rules, which is a requirement for having an account here. We don't have time to discuss this further, sorry.
Wth sort of moderation is that!
I replied with
Wth? You won't even tell me what rules I broke? What sort of moderation is that? I understood the rules clearly and broke none of them.

Even the Chinese Government have complained that the VF forum is draconian and overly censored. I think the moderators there need to do some serious enima sessions.
