This might seem a little weird, but do you guys eat yeast? When I first went vegan, I wouldn't eat bread or anything that had yeast in it because I didn't want to eat live bacteria..I was 12 at this point..I eat bread now, but I just wanted to see what everyone else thought about this!

When I was a kid, yeast was classified as a plant. When I studied some basic taxonomy for palaeontology in university, they have developed a few other kingdoms besides just the animal and plant ones, and yeast is now no longer considered a plant, but more of a fungus type of thing. So its not really a bacteria, and its very unlikely to be sentient. So its not an unveganly thing to eat.
Live yeast is not safe to eat though! Baked goods leavened with yeast are just fine. Nutritional yeast is another variety, or species, that is a staple for many vegans, and gives foods a cheesy flavor. Its is rich in nutrients, as is brewer's yeast, yet another variety that has a very different flavor from nutritional yeast.
