The view from our living room...down over the village across the valley and then hills ...it is amazing especially with the magical sunsets we get ...and is the same from my bedroom window...a beautiful scene to wake up to everyday :0) The photo doesn't really do it justice...

It must be great having a garden. I would set part of it up as a forest garden.

the pictures in the last two posts don't show.

What a cute garden, Stormy and beautiful view. I bet those mushrooms were amazing. I've never had freshly picked mushrooms. That is one of a few items that the organic farm we go to doesn't grow.

Our organic or in my case Veganic veggie patch with runner beans, stacks of tomatoes, sweet corn, lettuces, onions, strawberries, spring onions, rubbarb, dwarf apple tree and we did have radishes but we had harvested them all ....We were hoping to grow more that year but I think we took a bit to much on with other stuff like having a young baby and other bits and bobs hehehe .. but we also did loose a few things like our cucumbers and some of our varieties of tomatoes at the beginning of the year. It is amazing what you can grow without using animal by products or weed killers etc... it is all about companion planting and seaweed and homemade compost :)

I have sorted it now I think :) Also yes forest gardening is wonderful I visited one on the island of Skye a few years back now ...permaculture at its best... when I am growing stuff, I try not to dig after the initial dig of the year but pull weeds instead, as I like it to be pretty weed free. As you can see it needed weeding under the sweet corn but I did sort it after that photo :D

Ps please could you remove the blank posts - many thanks :)

Thanks Vegantwins :) I do feel very blessed to live in Cumbria it is an amazingly beautiful county :)

And the mushrooms we grew a few years ago now, and were so tasty my son ate them raw :)

I want a garden! I'll see if I can grow some food in pots this year.

That is a great way to grow stuff, and hanging baskets too. You can get some great varieties of tumbling tomato plants. I found a link for you http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/content/articles/2006/05/08/homegrown_tomato_baskets.shtml

Honestly you can grow amazing things in pots, OK the quantities may not be as much as a veggie plot but you will be surprised how much you can grow. I tend to grow a lots of my herbs in pots.

When I get sorted out more I would like to take on an allotment... but like you I think I will probably be growing in pots for a while when I move.

Please let us see what you end up growing Gliondrach :)

Thanks for the link. I've heard Daphne Ledward on Gardeners' Question Time.

Put your name down now for an allotment in more than one place in case there are waiting lists. All the allotments near me aren't near enough to me. Not now that I don't have a car. I might approach someone who has a garden and offer to grow food in it, and split the crops with them.

Ah, beautiful pictures Stormy! I finally got back on DSL and was able to see them at last.

Me too! Though I do have some pots, I miss working soil.

My brussels sprouts and celery are getting close to being ready to harvest. I'll try to take some pictures before I eat them. I've got a couple dozen Meyer lemons this winter too, and too much Italian parsley!

Stormy, I’m really enjoying your photos - what a fabulous garden! We grow vegetables and herbs on my farm in the summer - it’s out in Kent. I like to retreat there whenever possible, especially when I’m writing - I find the peace and quiet is very helpful to my thought process. It’s such a welcome respite after the chaos of this city! The property is a smallhold and not used as an actual farm, other than the area we use for growing our food - much like having an allotment. I will have to get some photos of our next garden posted, in the summer. Thank you for sharing yours - they’re lovely to see!!! :)

Thanks Fauxmage and ЈPetie :)

Wow lucky you petie I have always wanted a small holding... please post some photos then I can sit here muttering to myself how luck you are :D There is nothing like growing your own food and living off the land as naturally as you can!! Have you got an orchard or fruit trees as Kent is notorious for its amazing fruit production :)

My parents now live on the Sussex and Kent borders, and my mothers family are from Tunbridge Wells so I know it fairly well ... it definitely has the weather to grow lots of food, unlike Cumbria where the growing season is shorter but that's where a good poly tunnel comes in useful!! The house I live in here is not a small holding but has enough land for our veggie patch although I am moving from here soon sadly due to a major change in circumstances!!

My ultimate aim is to build an Eco house and tread as lightly on the earth as possible ....and be self sufficient... I bought 8 acres of land mainly woods in Scotland a few years ago with this in mind,.. although I like to say I am its guardian not owner as I respect the land too much to think of being an owner... we use it as a retreat at the moment when we can, and planned to put compost toilets up there, and build a round house there by resourcing local natural materials. It's where I had hoped to live with my partner but as I said a lot have changes have happened in the last six months in my life, and at the moment that is on hold .. but hey I am ever the optimist and it will happen I know it!! bloody hell I have wanted it long enough!!
