Where does everyone get their footware from. I got a lovely pair of work boots from a place called vegetarian shoes in Brighton which also does mail order. Not sure if they ship abroad, I think they may but they do some pretty cool stuff. :)

In the USA, I go to places like Ross or Payless for very inexpensive vegan shoes. Sometimes some really nice ones show up, and I always get compliments on my shoes or boots when I am dressed up for a special occasion. I also find sandals at drug stores like Longs, which I wear in the summer, and people like them too. They are always surprised when I tell them where I get them and that they are not leather. I expect they come from sweatshops, though. But I can't pay $80 and up for a pair of shoes, especially considering that I work out of doors in mud during the rainy season, and wouldn't want to ruin expensive shoes.

I usually go to Payless or Spendless, here in Oz.

In Melbourne there is a company that makes good quality vegan shoes (and belts and things) but I am a bit hesitant about buying shoes without being able to try them on. If I ever get to Melbourne I will certainly visit the shop. :excited:

My sneakers/trainers are New Balance, a large number of their styles are non-leather. Cheapy shoes are from Payless and my good ones like my hiking boots and everyday shoes I bought at Mooshoes (www.mooshoes.com) in NYC but they are both Vegetarian Shoes brand.

they ship outside the UK too iirc.

I got my office dr.martens and my veggie trackers (I think)

oh! and my birki's too :colors:

That's four years ago, I'm thinking of going this fall or next spring again for new ones.

Mail order is nice, but with only full sizes available, I really want to try them on before I buy them

I just bought some of the Mirage boots (in dark brown) on sale for $89 on-line:excited: I can't wait for them to get to me...just hope they don't email and say they're out even after I ordered:no: I also have a couple pair of New Balance 811's, which are not only made of faux leather, but also supposedly non-sweat-shop made (mostly US made). I tried buying shoes at Payless, etc, but they made my feet break out whatever the Chinese shoe "fake leather" was made of doesn't agree with me:no: I'm trying to replace my leather shoes as I can afford to, then I'm taking my leather shoes to Salvation Army:agree:

Oh, those of you who mentioned Crocs, if I'm an 8.5, would 8's fit or 9's? I guess I should try some on, but just thought I'd ask. (I buy narrows in New Balance if that makes a difference...)

Bowwowmeow

I buy wide New Balance shoes, and the Crocs are pretty comfortable for me, so you might get away with an 8, dreamer.

Talking about Crocs............ For anyone in the UK, if you go to Sports Soccer or Sports World, they have them half price at the mo.......... Yay!

:agree: Crocs run big and mold to your foot. I wear a size 12US wide  but an 11 regular in Crocs. They are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned!

Wow, definitely sounds like I should try some on before ordering any...I have plenty of time as I probably wouldn't want any until summer comes back around. Of course, with global warming, I might be able to wear them in mid-winter:rolleyes:

These are my most comfortable pair of shoes after my Crocs. I ordered these from Vegan Essentials as well. I've been wearing this shoe for several years now, I just get a new pair when the old one wears out. It lasts about a year and a half.

Those look really cool...you must be rough on your shoes to "kill" them in 18 months:confused:

They are Vegetarian Shoes brand and not particularly long-lasting. They're quite pricey too, $80. But I like them and they are comfy.

TVT, do you have any problems with the fit when you buy shoes over the Internet? How easy is it to exchange them if they turn out to be the wrong size when you actually put them on? :rubchin:

The black shoes I first tried on at a vegan shoe store in NYC called Mooshoes (www.mooshoes.com), it was my first time buying a different pair that I never tried on previously. Their return policy is good though you can't return alot of their clearance shoes.

They do look comfortable :)

I bought my shoes in august 2001, I don't brush my shoes much and work in a office.
Here's how they look after five years of use

I've heard the microfiber birki's are out of production now, and the veggietrekkers or whatever there name is, are replaced by somthing else.
The doc. marten office shoes also are no longer available. :(

I don't remember what was paid for them back then, but they sure weren't cheap. These were worth the investment in them, when they have to be replaced, I think that means I have to visit Brighton for new ones, as I absolutely want to trial fit them before I buy them.

Yours are lasting alot better than mine do, 1V. I do have a pair of hemp shoes that are 3+ years old and still look newish. Hemp seems to last for years.

I received a flyer from a chain store called Tuesday Morning (www.tuesdaymorning.com). Starting February 6th, they will have Crocs on sale for $20! That's the cheapest I've ever seen them. The flyers says the color and size will vary depending on which store. I am near 2 of these stores so I'm going to see if I can find a pair in my size.

I'm returning one pair as they hit the top of my foot in a painful way (maybe I have a high arch?):

But I'm exchanging them for this pair--which I hope works out better:

Yeah, I almost ordered them the first time (now I wish I had), but I thought the others looked better for walking around a bit. The way they hurt when I put them on though, walking much would be out of the question! I'll send back the first ones probably tomorrow, so it might be a couple of weeks 'til I get the new ones, but I'll definitely let you know how they feel:agree:

I have worn the white ones I ordered a few times and they're really comfy. But with the Earth shoes having the "negative heel" set-up, I feel a bit sore after wearing them for a few hours--especially one of my knees. I think I'll adjust though because they're really comfy to my feet:agree:

I agree...I have some winter boots that are Earth vegan boots and I had to get used to them because at first my knees and hip seemed a bit "off." But once I did, they were some of my fav winter shoes...I'd try to find ways to put together all sorts of outfits just to wear them more. I'm sure the sandals will be the same way, I just need to readjust to the negative heel set-up.

Gliondrach

What's a negative heel?

Bowwowmeow
05-25-2007, 09:27 PM
The front part of the shoe sole is thicker than the heel, so that your heel is actually lower than the front part of your foot, I think.

Those Navigator sandals look nice for the Summer but are very expensive for something that consists mainly of nothing. I wonder if they do a version with hobnails on the soles - like the old Roman marching sandals?

I like the Earth vegan Oasis sandal pretty well. This particular pair doesn't seem as "negative heel" as the other Earth shoes I've had...which I actually like. The arches are great...I think I finally adjusted the straps so that they don't "cut in" too:)
