The chirpy Cockneys have had their rhyming slang for at least 200 years. Now it is time to give the world Vegan Rhyming Slang. As the official lexicographer of the vegan movement - appointed by the great Nitram Nagev himself - I have taken it upon myself to start the ball rolling with two well-known terms that are widely used in vegan/AR circles.

For those of you, mostly Americans (with the exception of TVT, who knows about British things) and certain European-types, here's an explanation of rhyming slang. Cockneys have their rhyming slang. Usually, it is one, two or three words but they usually only use the first word. So, 'On your tod' means 'alone', from Tod Sloan, the Victorian jockey. The word doesn't have to bear any relation to the word it replaces. Tod Sloan wasn't alone, his surname just rhymed with it. When there are two or three words, usually only the first word is used. And it doesn't rhyme with the word it replaces. 'china' is another example. So, in vegan rhyming slang we have:

Brag = brag and boast = toast.

Teenies = teeny boppers = coppers.

What other ones have you heard? Don't be shy.

Top marks to Oracl.

Minus 100 marks and a £1,000 fine to Tails for insulting the lexicographer. And, the word mustn't rhyme with the word it replaces. :rollingpin:

Judge = judge and lawyer = soya.

Richard = Richard Egan = vegan. But we'll need to vote on that one. What else rhymes with vegan? And that has another word that can go with it.

Angry = angry and edgy = veggie. Another vote needed.

Naughty = naughty and lewd = food.

OR, Hissed = hissed and booed = food.

I personally think that's a mistake. The post and packing should be extra.

Tom and Jerry = berry.

But what about all the berries that already have othe words attached to them, such as strawberry and blackberry? Should they be straw Tom and Black Tom? Then there'll be goose Tom, blue Tom, whortle Tom, elder Tom, etc.

Gliondrach

That could be Sty and Pig = fig.

So, sty = fig.

You could say: 'I think I'll eat a sty.'
