Fourteen years ago I didn't have any cats. I'd grown up with cats, but when Pepper, our family cat, used up his nine lives I didn't want any more cats, as I had dogs, and smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs, and rehabilitated wild birds flying loose in the house.
My brother called me, and said that his roommate was abusing his new kitten, Squeezer, and begged me to take her. I was reluctant (this was a family pattern, and I ended up with many "dumped" animals from different relatives who didn't want them anymore), but my brother was very upset, so I agreed. She was definitely abused, and it took a year for her to allow me to spend more than about 5 minutes with her without being attacked. Now, she adores the dogs and me, and her name isn't Squeezer anymore, but Cleopatra, aka Patty, but mostly just the Queen.
:catn:
Our family cats were always outdoor cats, but my brother insisted that I keep Squeezer indoors only. I said fine, but there was no way I was going to start in with the whole litterbox deal, so I got a kit to train your kitty to use the people toilet. It was a success! A shortlived one, though, because when my brother came along again insisting that I take on one of three littermates dumped at his vet, Carlisle became kitty number 2. I love him, but he is not the intelligent clever cat my Queen is.
:sigh: :bcat::dunce:
I spent two years attempting to get him used to the people toilet before I gave up (I am one stubborn *&@#$$@&!). I lost the kitty litter war, and now even the Queen uses the litterbox. :crying::crying::crying:
But this is proof that once she was able to use the people toilet. After her first success, I commenced to take a photo, and she popped into the picture and looked into the toilet at her accomplishment at the perfect time! What a Queen! The kit came with a diploma to be awarded to the proud graduate upon successful completion of the "thesis". My Queen was summa cum laude, of course. Carlisle was a drop-out, and when Pez came along, and I gave it another shot, he dropped out too. Girls ARE smarter than boys!
