View Full Version : Any collectors of anything?

Does anyone collect anything in particular? :)

Coins :twocents: stamps, beer cans, teapots :teapot: post cards, key rings? Anything else?

It occurred to me that if two or more of us collect the same things and those things were light weight and post-able, then maybe we could swap some stuff. :D

Or for that matter, if anyone collects stuff that is light weight and post-able, some of us may be able to add to the collection.

Just a thought. :grouphug2:

No one's daft enough to fall for that trick.

I collect UK bank notes. Contributions gratefully received.

I kind of collect old photo camera's

I don't know if I'm a real collector, I just buy camera's at recycle stores or markets, the kind that look nostalgic or interesting.

Sometimes that means a camera comes with a leather casing, but because a 20 year old leather case won't contribute to animal suffering now, I don't feel guilty about it.

I'm not a real photografer, but see them as interesting things to decorate my room with.
I think it's more the nostalgia I'm after.

I have a collection of coins. There are some really old ones from countries all over the world, that my grandfather collected, and some from my parents' and my own travels. I still add to it if I get a new or foreign currency coin in my change at the shops. I have been meaning to get the collection valued and then donate it to a charity. :)

After I send Paul his bottles, I'll post you any left over UK bank notes from Heathrow.

I have been thinking about starting a stamp collection. :)

I had the opportunity to see some stamps from around the world recently - from the collection of an acquaintance - and some of them were really beautiful.

I was particularly taken with the stamps showing animals, birds, reptiles, fish, plants, trees ... basically living things. :D

I wasn't so interested in the stamps with motor vehicles or Olympic athletes or buildings or royalty ... :shakehead:

But it's just an idea at the moment. :rubchin:

Speaking of stamp collections, 'junk week' used to be a big deal when I was a kid. This was when homes would put out their large rubbish twice a year and the townships would pick it up based on a schedule. You could find toys, furniture, games and one year, I found a stamp collection. While I was fascinated by it, I was also curious about what I could get for it. I took it to a store and the man offered me $25 which I took. Stupid kid, it was probably worth alot more. :dunce:

Right now, I don't collect anything due to lack of space but over the years, I've had a collection of teapots and teacups, some antique which I still have and a collection of foreign coins and some bills from countries I"ve visited. The largest collection I ever had was pig-related. A close friend of mine and I started swapping pig stuff when we were 17 and it continued, with others joining in and giving us stuff, until we were about 26. I had so much pig stuff from all over the world including teapots, linens, t-shirts, posters, jewelry, housewares etc.. I gave away the bulk of my collection but kept some of my favorites including a pottery pig I picked up in Iceland, a pig pillowcase my friend's mother had made for me and Murano glass pigs from Italy. I guess now my largest collection is vegan recipes. I have so many printed out from the web.

I'm not sure, I don't have an exact count, but it has to be something like 200

Mostly from the late 50's to late 80's, sort of from the beginning that photocamera's became available for the common man (afaik)

It's fun to find a camera for a few dollars, and to find out at home if it was popular, how old it can be etc.

I have two old Box Brownies that belonged to the family. One is from the 1930s - I think and the other must be from the '50s.

Or I did have them. I haven't seen them for a few years. Perhaps they disappeared along with some other things that disappeared. Such as my old Viewmaster and discs; my 45 RPM record of the 633 Squadron theme music; a Conway-Stewart fountain pen and propelling pencil that belonged to my mother; a shirt thing I wore as a baby - that wouldn't even be big enough to use as a hat now; and some other things. And various school reports and end-of-term exam results papers - going back to when I was aged 10. All gone.

Do you think it would have been thrown out if it was valuable? :rubchin: Then again, the lady in the post office told me that an extensive stamp collection sold here in the 1990's for about four hundred thousand dollars. :faint:

A few days ago, I saw a 2008 calendar with photos of pigs on it. :D It was gorgeous! :agree: Do you have any photo's of your pig related collection?

200? Wow. :excited: Do you have then on display or are the safely packed away? Are the valuable in a monetary sense or in a sentimental one?

I have some "on display", which means I have some in the livingroom as decoration. The most are packed away cause if I have too much standing around, I have to dust them too much ;)

I don't think or know if they are valuable, I mostly buy them cause they look nostalgic. Sometimes when I buy one and try to find info about it on the internet, I find that I have made a good deal, but what I buy is just what I can get cheap, I'm not a collector who has to complete a set or series.

I have a few SLR cameras, normally they are too expensive to buy, they are decorative items to me, so I try to stay under the 10 euro's /15 usd per camera and that means most SLR's are "too expensive" for me.

I don't know for sure if they are in working order.

Mostly I can just figure out if the shutter works, that's it.

I suppose for testing, I'd need film and afaik, film isn't vegan? Besides, it seems that for the most of the camera's there is no longer film available anyway.
