This is a site about a bloke whose cat kept on jumping on the kitchen sideboard to eat his plants. In order to stop him he rigged up a prototype cat scarer out of a web camera, motion capture software on his poot, a strobe light and his blender.

Predictably hilarious results his site (http://www.plasma2002.com/blenderdefender/) has numerous short vids of incidents and also provides detailed instructions of how to make your own.

Does anyone watch 'I'm Alan Partridge', played by Steve Coogan? I've just spent the last two minutes laughing helplessly after thinking about one of the scenes. It was in the second-last episode which was shown a few days ago. Partridge is a former television host who was sacked from the BBC. He then went to work for Radio Norwich - doing the early morning 'phone ins from 4 to 7 o'clock. He has a chance to work on Irish television and has a meeting with two executives in the Travel Tavern hotel, where he lives after his wife kicked him out. He doesn't want the executives to know he lives there. Earlier, a devoted fan approached him for his autograph. Partridge asks him to do it when he is with the two Irishmen, to make it look as if he is popular. The two Irishmen have just said that they find the hotel depressing, that they can't imagine how anyone could stay there, and that they would like to carry on the meeting somewhere else. Just then the fan turns up and says they could go to Partridge's house. I forget how, but he knows Partrdge doesn't have a house. Partridge introduces him as his driver and says they live together - as boss and employee. They go to this bloke's house - pretending it is Partridge's house. The bloke leaves them in the hall and goes to make tea for them all. Partridge finds the sitting room and, before he's had a good look at it, invites the two Irishmen to sit down. But (I'm laughing again now) there's only one chair in the room. The bloke who lives there is a complete loner with no friends and his only interest seems to be Alan Partridge. He even has a room with walls covered in his pictures. I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING AS I WRITE THIS. Then he comes in with the tea. He apologises because he only has one cup. He gives that to someone. The other teas are in a jug, a jar and something else. It's a hilarious scene. I was laughing so much when I saw it that I nearly fell off my chair. I thought about it just a few minutes ago. I was thinking about laughter and its health benefits. I was thinking about good ways to make yourself laugh. Then I remembered that. You see, I only have one chair. I only have one cup. One plate. And one knife and fork.

I've found the clip on youtuba. I see that the two Irish telly executives are played by the two men who wrote Father Ted.

Thanks for this Gliondrach. I've watched four whole episodes now! I should see if I can get this on DVD from somewhere. :lol:I got my Dad and step-Mom hooked on Father Ted. We need something new now, though I don't think we will ever stop laughing at Father Ted, no matter how many times we watch the same episodes over and over.

Your description of this fan room reminded me of the scene from the episode of Father Ted where he has bent over backwards to prove to Craggy Island's Chinese community that he is not a racist, and they all come back from the pub and into the front room of the parochial house that's just been decorated floor to ceiling with Nazi memorabilia.

I never really watched Father Ted, or Alan Partridge ...but all this talk of how good it is - makes me want to watch it.

I watched 6 seasons of Peep Show in about 3 weeks (I am unemployed!)...and I loved that. I think I might check them out.

Gliondrach
01-20-2010, 03:18 PM
Yes, that is one of the best episodes of Father Ted. I see it's the full programme. I'll watch it tomorrow.

There is a second series of Alan Partridge where he has moved out of the hotel and is living in a luxury caravan. I seem to remember it's parked in someone's garden. Perhaps his. And the Geordie hotel worker has left there and is working somewhere else. But he always seems to be with Partridge.

Yes, it's funny. Especially as he doesn't realise. At first, I thought he was doing it on purpose. And I thought the beard was false. I now know how his name is pronounced.

Blueshark
01-21-2010, 03:15 PM
I think it is funny because he just doesnt care about the appearance. He is just sitting there and giving one word answers. Seemingly he is retired as an actor, so he probably doesnt feel the need to sell himself anymore. I hope there is a not a dark side, and he is got a drug problem. I think it will be ok.

What is that Martin? And what is the name of that song?

Gliondrach
04-15-2010, 04:15 PM
I think it's hilarious. I don't know what the song is. Something from the 1980s, I think. I think it is the song played in that Father Ted episode where they raffle the car. It is the only record the disc jockey priest has brought for the dance.

This bloke is supposed to be a Community Support Officer - a fairly new organisation that patrols here and there, in support of the police. They don't have any special powers of arrest - as far as I know. They always go around in pairs. There used to be two of them here but they disappeared after a couple of weeks. They might have got lost.

Bowwowmeow
04-15-2010, 06:36 PM

I found a compilation clip of Detective Inspector Grim's tirades but I can't find it now. He is a character in The Thin Blue Line, which stars Rowan Atkinson. But Grim is played by David Haig. Haig played Rudyard Kipling not long ago and was very good in it

I found lots of videos of the series but not the one I was looking for. It was a compilation of his outbursts against everything he hates in life, and there's quite a bit he hates.

This reminds me of the time we were in a restaurant with my Gramma and Pa. Pa was getting a little hard of hearing, though I swore at times it was selective. ;)

Their pizza was ready, so my Gramma sent my Pa up to get it from the counter. The counter person asked, "Would you like plates?"

Pa replied, in a tone that suggested he thought the counter person was crazy, "NO! I don't want any CAKE!"

The counter person just smiled very sweetly as my Pa then asked "Have you got any plates?"

"Yes." He smiled as he got out a stack of plates, and asked "Do you want forks?"

"No, three." answered my Pa.

I saw this on telly a couple of hours ago. It's one of the hilarious sketches from The Two Ronnies. I laugh every time I see it. American-types might not understand all the answers. When a contestant doesn't know an answer and they don't want to guess, they say 'pass'. Mastermind is a quiz show in which contestants answer questions on their chosen subject.
