Whoa...it looks exactly like it! (Sticky beans are AKA natto.) I was going to ask you how good sticky beans are, but I guess I can't now;)
My other guess would be peanuts in a marshmallow sauce like used for marshmallow treats:whistle:

Well, you didn't use the proper name in post #2 so I didn't know you were referring to natto. I never heard it called sticky beans. For your correct guess, I will send you a sample of the above for you to enjoy. I will store it in a dirty sweat sock to get the proper aroma. :blecch:
Seriously, I'm all about trying new foods but I couldn't eat something that looked like that.

On "Iron Chef," they just called it sticky beans. I didn't realize it was called natto in Japan, so I searched for "sticky beans" (after you said I was wrong) and saw that it was interchangably called natto or sticky beans here...I guess Americans often call it sticky beans. I also found this article: http://metropolis.co.jp/biginjapanarchive299/267/biginjapaninc.htm . It didn't exactly make me want to go try some, though it mentions natto contains B12...also near the end, the author says, Happy and healthy natto fans, huddling around the kotatsu with their bowls of sticky beans, already know the tune.:blecch: So I think I'll pass on my prize;)

Phew, I didn't want to buy that nasty stuff. I know they sell it at the Asian market near here.

It looks just like something my little Japanese boyfriend used to mix raw egg into. Ugh. I've got a stomach ache just remembering that.

The article that dreamer linked to said it smells like dirty, sweaty socks. :blecch:

Because it tastes good once you're used to it?
I guess it's just like some special moldy cheeses, people like those too.

My grandparents loved Limburger cheese. I remember one Christmas someone gave them some, and they put it in my room with the rest of their stuff. By evening, my whole room smelled exactly like a baby's poopy diaper. I could never figure out how their noses let them get that cheese close enough to their mouths for them to decide they loved the taste in spite of the smell.

Perhaps being used to the smell of other cheeses made the Limburger's smell less obnoxious.
