Hey folks! We now have VBulletin Blog 1.0.1 software installed! Look up at the navigation bar, the strip that has the following links: UserCP, Blogs, FAQ, Members List, Calendar, New Posts, etc. and you will see the Blogs link. Click on it, and you will be able to see other people's blogs and start your own. For this reason, I will be closing our old Blogging Forums, once Phoenix and ped ant get their blogs transferred, if they wish to do so. I have transferred mine, and Seymour is going to transfer his. I moved the "Comment on Someone's Blog" thread into the "There's Nobody Here but Us" forum, and the "Interesting Blogs" and "History of Blogging" threads are in the General Discussion forum. I did delete a couple of defunct blogs made by members who rarely visit, if at all.

I haven't looked into all the ins and outs of using the software yet, so we will learn together. I have added the title to each blog entry, as they don't automatically transfer like thread titles do in posts. I haven't tried it yet, but I think changing the title might mean a new blog gets started. I don't know this for sure, but I am assuming a person could have a blog on more than one subject.

Just hover your mouse over each little symbol to figure out what they do. There are options for editing, emailing, reporting, etc., but they are all different from our regular forum icons. You can also leave comments on other people's blogs, as long as they have them set to be visible to everyone. You can change your blog options to keep everyone from reading them, only people on your ignore list from reading them, or only let people on your buddy list read them. I don't know if this is an issue for anyone here. You are all my buddies. I don't need to put you on my Buddy List, and if I felt like I had to put anyone on my ignore list, I would straighten things out with them personally first, since I think all those functions are incredibly junior high. :shakehead: :beanie:
There is also some kind of key to use to prevent comment spam, but I have no idea what that is all about. Its something else I will have to do my homework for. :reading:

But anyway its up and running, so have a look and enjoy!

Thank you ped! Did you mean to make it private though? If not, you'll have to go into your blog cp and check the boxes that will let everyone be able to view your writings. Its a shame to keep your wisdom a secret.

It seems that the default settings in the blog cp make the blogs private automatically, and so anyone who wants to blog and let everyone see it will have to make sure the right boxes are checked. I can see them because I'm the boss, and for the private ones, there is a little symbol next to each entry in the list that shows the mods that the blog is private, and not viewable to regular members.

Our blogs are not available to guests, as you will notice if you log out and look at the navbar. The link is missing to those who are not regular members, which includes those folks waiting to activate their accounts, those waiting for email confirmation, those on delayed posts, and those who have joined but not posted.

The first one of Seymour's says that it shows a picture of his mother. But it shows one of him.

Why would anyone want a private blog? I thought the idea was to share thoughts. Very strange.

I think you're looking at a random blog entry. If you click on the title, you will see the actual picture, and not [Image]. Its a little confusing at first, because the layout is nothing like forum layout.

I don't know what I did but I can't find that one again.

Bowwowmeow

That's because it was a feature of the random blog entry selection on the blog home page. Every time you open the blog page you will see a different blog entry featured. To view the entire blog, click on the title. You can also click on the number in the box at the left, and you will see all the blogs listed.

Right.

Thanks for waiting for us, BWM. :psmooch:

I'm having a bit of a :dunce: day today, and I promised my housemate I wouldn't be on the Internet for very long  so I have copied my entire blog to my computer and I will sort it out later when I have time to spare. :agree:

The new set-up looks good though, from the little I've had time to explore today. :)

Hey! Come and give our blogs some love, folks. Oracl and I are practically all alone in there.

We want more comments! :tantrum: :bwah:

They're totally ignoring us. :pouty:
I guess one of us is going to have to strip and do a naked blog if we want any attention. :wigglebutt: :shakehead:
Since we can't hit them over the head and make them look. :rollingpin:

Oracl

I think it is because you have to make a special effort to click on the Blogs link and most people just go to the main part of the forum. :s:igh: :whiteflag:

Yeah. I'll have to ask VBulletin if there's a way to add new blog posts to the New Posts list.

Er ... Bowwowmeow ... would you or Fauxmage please close the old blogging forum now?

I realise its daft, but I feel kind of exposed :wigglebutt: now that the only blog on "public" display is mine. :o

I have copied my blog to my computer - but I haven't decided yet whether to transfer it or begin a fresh one. :rubchin:

I'm finding the new blogging software a little confusing, to be honest. :dunce:

I'll move your blog to our fabulous confabulations, Phoenix, and close the blogging forum. I'd hate to lose it, and I'm sure everyone else would too.

I'm gonna have to figure out how to make decent screen shots so I can show you guys how to do stuff. I figured out the blog just by clicking on stuff and seeing what happens. It didn't come with a user manual, although I did notice an entry in the FAQ which might be helpful to folks. I haven't read it yet.

That was my approach too. :uhuh: It's kind of the way I do most stuff on the "Internets" and computers generally (carefully of course! ;) ).

Major Geeks have a link to a free screen capture tool.

Or type 'screen capture' into their search box. For other ideas.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing their own blogs? I have found that clicking on the "Your Blog" link under Blogs > options leads me to a no permission message, which is definitely a problem, since I am the admin and should have permission to see anything, especially my own darned blog!

I may have to upgrade the blog software before my current license expires.

Indeed . . .

I’m finding the same thing, when I click on ‘Blogs’ in the navigation bar above and then the ‘Your Blog’ link.

Hmmm . . .

Wonder what’s causing this to happen now, when this wasn’t an issue as recently as only a couple of months ago?! What’s most peculiar, is I can view all your blogs with no difficulty, Fauxmage - just not my own!

Probably some bug. I'll have to have Tech Support look into it. Thanks for letting me know! :nanakiss:
