View Full Version : The Misunderstanding and confusion game.

Here's a game I made up. Well, as far as I know. When people say certain things I pretend to misunderstand and then start a long chain of confusion.
Someone makes a statement and then I pretend to misunderstand what a certain word means. Such as:
The x-ray showed a lesion.
That's a Roman Army thing, isn't it?
No, that's a legion.
A legion? I thought that was a sort of myth.
That's a legend.
A legend? I thought that was a book where accounts are written.
No, that's a leger.
A leger? I thought that a dirty old man.
No, that's a letcher.
And so on. I would probably mistake that for 'lurcher'.
So, I will start with:
The house was consumed in a conflagration.

Which member of the congregation did the vacuuming?

A congregation? Isn't that a group of stars?
No, that's a constellation.
A constellation? I thought that was a type of meeting.
No, that's a consultation.
A consultation? I thought that was an assertion of the contrary position.
No, that's a contradiction.
A contradiction? Isn't that a donation of some sort?
No, that's a contribution.
A contribution? I thought that was something happening inopportunely.
No, that's a contretemps.
A contretemps? Isn't that a kind of puzzling question?
No, that's a conundrum.
Is this the way to play?..........So now what happens? :p

Both very good. I think it will be better if we add one line and leave it to the next person. To see where we end up. The first word might be 'computer' and it might end up as, say, 'Australia'. You never know where these things will take you.
Although the way BWM did it suggests another game. Which might be easier to play. One person says something and the next misunderstands the whole sentence.
The man saw a meteorite.

I still haven't worked out a worthwhile response to this I'm afraid, Gliondrach! :rubchin:

The man saw a meteorite.
You can get a ticket for running those when they are red.

Do you mean you can get sick if you have a runny nose and sore head?

Did you say that if you pick your nose while running, it will gore your head?

Are you saying Al Gore chose to run again for the headman's job?

Yes, marinating artichokes turns them flavored and sponged. :agree:

Which mariner favoured trying to choke Artie Sponge? And is Artie Sponge better known as Private Sponge?
