View Full Version : Is Anyone Having Trouble with the Forum?

Is anyone having any trouble using any of the posting functions or other features? Let me know if something doesn't seem to work here, and tell me which skin you use to view the forum, so I can check. There may be problems with one skin that don't happen with another.

Yes, when I hit Quick Reply, like I just did, the previous post is quoted instead. I use Sun, Moon and Stars skin. Always have, always will. :sun:

Oh and when I click Edit, it does a weird thing. It works but it loads the post a few times first.

Try switching skins. "Standard" is the unaltered version, but try a few, and see if the same thing happens.

Bowwowmeow

I didn't have any trouble using the edit button, either. I am using "Celestial", but I'll try them all out. I've got to restore some buttons in "Berries n Dream" next anyway, so we can get it running again.

Have you checked to see if the little box under the quick reply window that says "quote message in reply" is unchecked? The default setting is that it is unchecked, but maybe something's wrong there.

Ok, here's a list of some of the problems with 3.7 that upgrading to 3.8 is supposed to fix:
Internet Explorer hangs on forum home
Quick reply errors with PHP 5.0.5
'Show edited by' note appears in some circumstances where it shouldn't
Email activation can lead to the users being moved to the wrong usergroup
Suspect file check identifies addon file versions incorrectly
Support for Safari 3.0 on Windows

I've never been able to use the "Multi Quote" feature and I use the gray skin. I don't get an error or anything, it just doesn't do anything when I click it.Press the "MultiQuote" button in more than one post. They should turn pink if you are using the "Gray" skin. After you have pressed all the buttons you want, press the "Post Reply" button, and all the posts you clicked "MultiQuote" buttons on should appear in your posting window. That's what I just did with your two previous posts.

Same problem with "Quick Reply"
Ok. Its strange to me that some people should be able to use the quick reply and others are not. But its a bug in the new version which will not be fixed until we upgrade. I am thinking of upgrading this Monday, and I will close the forum again while we do it.

I don't think I've ever been able to use the quick reply on any forum I've been on. But I'm not bothered about that. The ordinary reply button does the job. I have noticed that the reply box (that I'm writing in now) jumps across to the left when I type words that go over to the right of the box. It only happens the first time. Perhaps the size of the screen display has changed and is now too big for my screen. But, again, I'm not bothered by it. I can't even be bothered to use the 'full screen' function - which I have to do sometimes on some websites, which shows how not bothered by it I am.

Its probably because the smilie box got bigger.

I've had trouble reaching the forum in my afternoon.

So.... 8 to 4 hours before this post, nothing loaded for me.

The only thing I got was "connection timed out", not sure if that's just a internet hick up or that the site was really down?

Maybe its time to get more bandwidth.

I don't think it's a bandwidth issue?

Though that depends on how your provider handles it, if they do limit your bandwidth to a daily maximum, it could be the problem, but then I would have expected a bandwidth exceeded message on my screen?

And you should have had a bandwith exceeded email too?

Nothing seems to work any more, no skins no smilies nuffin *hyperventilates*

Bowwowmeow
08-07-2007, 11:26 AM
Tech Support has lost all my images, smilies, avatars, buttons, logos, status icons, for all the skins but this one. I am still waiting for them to tell me whether they are lost completely, or where they stuck them so I can move them to the proper folder. Right now I am praying that they haven't lost them, or it will take days to get everything back.

I decided to get the forum back online though, as I figured people would be upset if it were still off while Tech Support deals with this. I am waiting to hear from them before I start to work, because if I start, and then they find them, it won't do any good, and I'll still have tons more work to do. Its so much easier to just move them from the old folders they should be in and move them in one go, than to reupload them. That's why I am hoping Tech Support haven't lost them completely.

Gliondrach

Bowwowmeow

I've had nothing but silence on this issue from two separate folks at Tech Support, so I am beginning to feel that the news is not good. I will submit one more new appeal to them, and if I don't hear anything, I will commence adding the images back tomorrow, one at a time.

This didn't happen the first time we upgraded, so I had no idea it would happen now. I do know what to do to prevent it from happening again; however, this is a rather expensive lesson for me to learn, in terms of time and work, if not money.

But don't worry folks, I do have copies of all the smilies on a CD, its just that I was hoping they were still stored somewhere in my web root, and therefore more easily restored as a mass upload, rather than one at a time.

Good news! We have smilies and skins again, though only partially. It seems that my latest additions are missing, and what we have now are from a back up of the old forum. But its better than nothing, and starting over from scratch. All the avatars, except the animated ones, seem to be missing . They will be back in a few days. I want to do a thorough check of all the skins before I make them available, though.

The Animated Avatars are all done. For some strange reason they were the only ones that weren't lost, which was good, because I didn't have them saved on a CD. I removed them from the old directory after copying them, and reuploaded them, which was a time consuming pain in the butt. I am grateful that I won't have to do that with all our images, or it would take weeks instead of days.

Hey everyone! We are still experiencing a problem with the Usergroup Permissions, which I cannot edit at this time. Everything else seems to be working, so i have turned the forum back on. I'll be shutting the forum off in about half an hour from now, at 11:00 AM Pacific time. Our problems have not been fixed, and I am tired of having to validate posts that shouldn't be getting moderated in the first place, and constantly removing myself from the banned list, only to find an hour or so later that I am back on the banned list. Our problems are too many and too complicated to list here, and I need to take the forum back offline until tech Support can figure them out. Nothing I do in the admin cp stays stable; whatever changes I make to correct our moderating problems automatically revert to the condition that is causing our problems.

That's the fault of the Usergroup Permissions bug that Tech Support can't figure out how to fix. All of the defaults were reset to "no" when the software was upgraded, and I can't make any changes stick. I am hoping we won't have to wait until the next version comes out, because every time that happens, we get one set of problems fixed, and another one crops up. I really hate 3.7.0. I wish I'd never upgraded.

Let me know exactly what you want your new sigs to say, and I may be able to change them in the admin cp. I haven't had any trouble changing usernames since the upgrade, so maybe changing siggies will work if I do it for you. I've always been pretty open to whatever people want in their sigs as far as fonts, sizes, colors, links, smilies, etc., except for images, which I personally find too distracting, and don't allow.

Something just like this happened to half of my mods a couple of weeks ago, and a couple of months ago, I even got banned. :hbang:

It didn't happen to you this time, Oracl, it happened to SinnerCal, and Ped. TestiCal was spared, on account of being a noob. :D
There were only twenty members in the Member's List last night. The Mods and the Noobs. :disbelief:

We are having major usergroup problems right now, tabitha, which is why registration is closed. I will be taking the forum offline tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon my time, which will be while you are all asleep early Thursday morning in the UK, I think, to try to get it fixed, and make sure that whatever it is that is banning random members and mods is corrected, and we can go back to normal again.

Tails sent me an e-mail to say that she has put her present e-mail address on NV and now can't post anything. She said NV had had her old e-mail address.

I don't know. Unless she sent me a spoof message in the hope that I would post it here and would then look like an idiot. I wouldn't put it past her.

Almost everything seems to be in working order, both here and in the Admin CP, except for an odd lack of access to editing functions for me as Admin, which is really stupid. The Mods have more editing options than I do at present.

The Mods and Super Mods are back, so you guys need to try some things out and see if everything is working like it used to. Everyone is back in the proper user group, but if you were in the Chin Waggers as well, and find you are not, please rejoin, as it was unintentional.

As always, please feel free to post any questions or problems here so I can look into it.

Registration is now open, so tell your friends!

Thanks for your patience everyone. I'll appreciate any input, since it is nearly 1 AM here, and there is so much to look at and check in the Admin CP that I could have missed something that would cause a problem for someone.

No problems so far. :) Running a bit slow though. :rubchin:

Exciting to be a mod again. :bouncy:
