I thought this might be useful for people now or in the future. If you live outside of the US and are in need of support, still contact these organizations as they might be able to connect you with local support.

Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Programs provides financial assistance for emergency medical care for cats.

If you have a specific breed of dog, contact the national club for that breed. In some cases, these clubs offer a veterinary financial assistance fund. Here are a few websites for groups that provide financial assistance for specific breeds:

What a great list, thanks vegantwins!

NJARA (www.nj-ara.org) is the one to thank. They sent out the email alert with this info. Actually, my vegan coworker is the one who does all their email alerts so I'll let her know tomorrow. :)

We have the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals here which gives veterinary care. I think they just ask for donations.

And we have the Blue Cross.

This is a nice poem from the Barnsley Animal Rescue group. They say they don't kill any healthy animals.

WILL YOU STILL WANT ME?

Now that I’m home, bathed, settled, and fed
All nicely tucked in my warm, new bed
I’d like to open my baggage
Lest I forget
There is so much to carry…
So much to regret.

Hmm…Yes there it is, right on top
Let’s unpack loneliness, heartache and loss
And there by my leash, hides fear and shame
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave
I still have to unpack my baggage called pain

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me
But I wasn’t good enough – for they didn’t want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things…
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage
To never unpack?
I pray that you do—I’m so tired you see
But I do come with baggage
WILL YOU STILL WANT ME?

Lacey (our oldest) was abandoned by her previous family and had a really rough time until we adopted her. That poem reminds me of her.
Lacey successfully unpacked her bags eight years ago but there are so many that won't.

Lacey was lucky that you found each other.
