While I was in Yosemite, I went to the ATM machine in the valley, and saw a paperback book lying on the counter. I took a second look at it before I left, and saw it had a sticky note on it that said
"I'm FREE!
I'm not lost!
Please pick me up, read me, and help me with my journey!
(See inside)"
I discovered BookCrossing.com (http://www.bookcrossing.com/), a book club whose members read a book, register it at the website, and then leave it somewhere for someone else to find, read, register, and pass along. There is a sticker inside with the ID number of the book, so you can go to the website and register that you found it, tell what you did with it, etc.
Its kinda fun, like finding a message in a bottle washed up on the beach. :)
Its "On The Road", by Jack Kerouac, by the way. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I'll give it a quick skimming before I set it loose upon the world again. :reading:

That's a very cool idea. I'm a so-so reader but Dan is an avid reader. We'll definitely check it out. What fun!

Yes, I'm thinking Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World might be a good book to set free.

I heard about this site last year. I've always set books adrift especially when I used to backpack through Europe yearly in my mid 20's. It was so great arriving somewhere like Prague and finding an English paperback in a train station so I always left mine behind in youth hostels, stations, buses etc.
Most of my books now are library books though I occasionally buy used books and then donate them to my local library. They either shelve them or put them in their book sale which raises funds for the library. I read alot. :book:

I use the library a lot too. :agree: I love checking the online catalogue and reserving items to pick up at my local branch.

That's exactly what I do too. Plus, I reserve dvd's and videos. Our library is part of a network with about 18 other libraries and if our library doesn't have the book, movie or cd, they will request it from another library. Saves alot of time especially when I have the kids with me who are pulling items of the shelves :o
