Childhood vaccinations linked to autism? Full story here (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/319394_autism12.html).

Daughter's autism linked to vaccine, mom tells court
Family is one of thousands to allege shot caused disease

By ANDREW BRIDGES
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON -- In excruciating detail, an Arizona mother on Monday described severe autism and devastating health problems that plague her 12-year-old daughter and asked a court to find that common childhood vaccines were the cause.

The test case is being closely watched by nearly 5,000 families of autistic children who have lodged similar claims for compensation from a federal fund.

The case of Michelle Cedillo, of Yuma, Ariz., is the first alleging a vaccine-autism link to be heard in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. It and eight other test cases are important because they will guide the handling of the other pending claims. Most contend that a mercury-rich preservative called thimerosal is to blame for the impaired social interaction typical of the disorder.

Should they prevail, the families will be eligible for compensation from a federal vaccine injury fund established by Congress to ensure an adequate supply of vaccines by shielding manufacturers from lawsuits. No autism claim has been paid from the fund thus far.

Large scientific studies have found no association between autism and vaccines containing thimerosal.

Government attorney Vincent Matanoski dismissed much of what the plaintiffs are expected to present during the three-week hearing as conjecture or speculation. "You'll find their hypotheses untested or, when tested, have been found false."

Theresa Cedillo said her daughter suffered five days of fever, her temperature often spiking to 105 degrees, after receiving a measles, mumps and rubella vaccination at 15 months. Michelle was a happy, robust, responsive and loving child but hasn't been the same since, Cedillo said.

Besides autism, Michelle suffers from inflammatory bowel disease, glaucoma and epilepsy. In addition, her bones, weakened by years of malnourishment, are prone to breaks, Cedillo said. Everything she eats is pumped in through a feeding tube, except for crackers and water.

"Clearly the story of Michelle's life is a tragic one," George Hastings Jr., a special master hearing the case, said in thanking the family for allowing theirs to be the first test case. He pledged he and two other special masters would listen carefully to all evidence.

Theresa Cedillo and husband Michael allege thimerosal-containing vaccines weakened their daughter's immune system and prevented her body from clearing the measles virus after she was immunized. That theory is one of three alleged by the thousands of plaintiffs. The others claim either thimerosal or the measles vaccine alone caused their children's autism.

I've read about this too. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, the chance of having an autistic child was one in thousands. Now, I believe one child in every 166 becomes autistic. If its not the unnecessary vaccines causing this, its definitely some other toxic result of modern living. :(

I'm so grateful that my ignorance while the kids were little turned out ok. Both of my girls were fully vaccinated as children because I was too stupid to question the system.
Our OBGYN recently suggested that Sarah get the HPV vaccine and I advised her not to get it.
One in 166 is really scary. There's definitely something going on.

California and New Jersey have the highest rates of autism but researches aren't sure if its because of triggers in these states or because the services are so much superior in these 2 states that many families with autistic children move here. It is more like 1 in 100 children in NJ are autistic.

I mentioned in another thread that I joined a few homeschooling yahoo groups. One was a small, local one with about 30 members. It appears that a few members are against Sarah & Ben not being vaccinated. One woman posted that she checked with her 6-year old son's pediatrician and cardiologist since the son has an immune disorder and they both told her that he shouldn't associate with Sarah & Ben. The mom wrote that what is a common cold for most kids becomes pneumonia for her son.

I'm not quite understanding this medical decision since this group does playdates at indoor playareas, a farm with animals kept in tight quarters (), and other very public areas. How could that woman possibly know who is vaccinated and who isn't and who might be carrying a communicable disease?

I don't understand what she's concerned about. If her kids are vaccinated why would she worry about your kids? All kids catch colds, not just non-immunized ones.

Dangers of Gardasil Starting to Emerge
By Sherri Tenpenny, DO

ezinearticles.com/?Dangers-of-Gardasil-Starting-to-Emerge&id=576462

On May 22, 2007, five schoolgirls at Sacred Heart Girls College in
suburban Melbourne, Australia, were taken to the hospital after
receiving an injection of Gardasil, the newest vaccine to be mandated
for cervical cancer. Soon after the vaccination, twenty-six girls were
seen at the campus medical clinic. Five were admitted to the hospital:
Two were kept overnight for dizziness; one had temporary paralysis and
loss of speech. The condition of the remaining two was not known. (1)

In the U.S., symptoms similar to those experienced by the Australian
girls have been reported to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting
System (VAERS). Since the approval of the vaccine in June, 2006, there
have been at least 1,600 adverse events reported. Here are a few
examples directly from the VAERS reporting pages:

"Immediately after injection patient complained of severe pain at
site. Fell off table and fainted for approximately 10 - 15 seconds.
Hyperventilating. Complained of headache, blurry vision; vision test
was normal. Vomiting x 1 in parking lot and speech was momentarily
inarticulate. Sent to ER where her neurological exam was normal except
for word recall "coffee instead of coughing" and said "Sired instead
of tired."

"A female patient was vaccinated with a first dose of HPV Vaccine.
Subsequently as the patient was leaving the examination room, the
patient fainted. The patient recovered shortly after fainting."

"A 14 year old female was vaccinated with Gardasil. It was reported
that the patient was sitting on a bench. When the nurse left the room,
the patient apparently fainted and ended up falling off bench. It was
reported that it was unsure if the patient had broken her nose but
there was blood. At the time of this report, the outcome of the events
were unknown."

VAERS is a passive surveillance system and depends upon voluntary
reporting by clinicians and parents of serious health problems
following vaccination. Although VAERS reports do not prove causation,
they can provide a warning system that a vaccine may be causing health
problems.

It has been estimated that fewer than 10 percent, even as low as 1 to
4 percent, of adverse events from a prescription drug or a vaccine are
ever reported.(2) If only 1 percent of all adverse events associated
with Gardasil are being reported to VAERS, there could have been as
many as 160,000 acute health problems from the vaccine in less than
one year. The long term neurological or immune system complications
are completely unknown. It is uncertain if any of these vaccinated
children will go on to develop fertility problems, cancer or damage to
their genes, all of which Merck admits in its product insert have not
been studied.

John Iskander, from the Center for Disease Control's immunization
safety office has said, "There is absolutely no reason to think that
there is anything in this vaccine that's going to make people more
likely to faint". (3) Despite his assurances, there are ingredients in
the vaccine that can cause recipients to become dizzy and faint.

Histidine, an amino acid, readily converts into another amino acid,
histamine, when it enters the body. When released, histamine causes
redness, swelling, itching and allergic reactions leading to widening
of capillaries, decreased blood pressure… people can faint. The
vaccine also contains Polysorbate 80, an agent used in creams,
ointments, lotions, and multiple medical preparations including
vitamin oils, and anticancer agents. Polysorbate 80 can cause
potentially fatal reactions in including anaphylaxis, characterized by
a sharp drop in blood pressure, hives, and breathing difficulties…
people can faint. (4)

Fainting spells after vaccination can have serious consequences. An
article published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine
(1997), reviewed the 697 reports of syncope (fainting) that occurred
after vaccination and had been reported to VAERS between 1990 and
1995. More than 97 percent of the events have occurred within 30
minutes of a vaccine, establishing a causal relationship. Of these,
six patients sustained a serious head injury, including skull
fracture, cerebral bleeding and cerebral contusion. Three of these
patients required brain surgery and two were left with substantial
residual neurological deficits at six months to two years after
follow-up. (5) Dizziness and fainting after vaccination is not
something to be taken lightly.

As for the children in Australia, the vaccination program is scheduled
to continue in June. "The college is confident that this program of
vaccination is safe to offer to students," says Christopher Dalton,
the school principal. "We will be working with the Department of Human
Services Victoria and the City of Monash Immunization Services in the
planning vaccination program."

The assumption is that illness and dizziness are "normal reactions" to
a vaccine. The overriding theme for the Australians is that "We have a
vaccine, and we will use it." For little girls in the U.S., watchful
waiting is advised.

Interesting article about some of the adverse reactions to the new vaccine that they are pushing for pre-teen girls to prevent HPV, an STD. Vaccines are poison and contain horrible things including formaldehyde, aborted fetal tissue, chicken embryo to name a few.

Thanks for posting that, TVT. I forwarded the link to my friends and family.
I'm really pissed off that the U.S. government (isn't it Texas) is mandating this crap.
Will you run into problems when the kids go to school? How do you get around the vaccines that they're supposed to have before entering Kindergarten? Will you have to fight the school system or is there a box you can check stating that it's for religious reasons or another personal reason?

This is what my stepmom said when I forwarded her the link:

Thanks for sharing. I thought the EPA had to test a drug for 10 years before it could come out to all the public. Don't you think all the people involved in the trials of the drug would have shown the effects before it went on the market? Something sounds fishy.

Any thoughts from you guys?

Gliondrach

They only tested the vaccine in a few hundred girls aged 9-15. But they tested it on thousands aged 16-26.

Younger girls might be more susceptible. Don't forget, drug companies have lied before about the results of clinical trials. For all we know, there could have been many more adverse reactions in the trials.

Three deaths were related to the vaccine. One physician’s assistant reported that a female patient “died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine.” Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.

I'm not sure about the 10 years but consider that even if it is 10 years, if they are injecting that vaccine into rats or dogs, they are not going to get the same result as injecting that vaccine into humans. Another reason why vivisection should be banned.

I'm a member of Yahoo group for slow and no-vax parents and it is shocking to read how the stories of how many children have experienced adverse reactions to vaccines. The governments really can't be trusted on this issue because the pharmaceutical companies have so much political clout. I don't believe that they are intentionally harming children, I just think they don't really care about the consequences and care about profit.

Gliondrach

It's true that they care mostly about profit. They are large organisations, there are pressures on everyone to achieve targets and increase profits. And most of them can blame someone else for anything that harms others and take comfort - wrongly - in the thought that they are just a small cog in an unstoppable machine.

That sounds quite good. I might use it again. Straight off the top of my head.

Parents face jail for not vaccinating their kids
Maryland officials frustrated by lack of compliance with immunization policy

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Scores of grumbling parents facing a threat of jail lined up at a courthouse Saturday to either prove that their school-age kids already had their required vaccinations or see that the youngsters submitted to the needle.

The get-tough policy in the Washington suburbs of Prince George’s County was one of the strongest efforts made by any U.S. school system to ensure its youngsters receive their required immunizations.

Two months into the school year, school officials realized that more than 2,000 students in the county still didn’t have the vaccinations they were supposed to have before attending class.
Story continues below ↓advertisement

So Circuit Court Judge C. Philip Nichols ordered parents in a letter to appear at the courthouse Saturday and either get their children vaccinated on the spot or risk up to 10 days in jail. They could also provide proof of vaccination or an explanation why their kids didn’t have them.

By about 8:30 a.m., the line of parents stretched outside the courthouse in the county on the east side of Washington.

Parents decry paperwork problems
Many of them complained that their children already were properly immunized but the school system had misplaced the records. They said efforts to get the paperwork straightened out had been futile.

“It was very intimidating,” Territa Wooden of Largo said of the letter. She said she presented the paperwork at the courthouse Saturday and resolved the matter.

“I could be home asleep. My son had his shots,” said Veinell Dickens of Upper Marlboro, who also blamed errant paperwork.

Aloma Martin of Fort Washington brought her children, Delontay and Taron, in 10th and 6th grade, for their hepatitis shots. She said she had been trying to get the vaccinations for more than a month, since the school system sent a warning letter. She had an appointment for Monday, but came to the courthouse to be safe.

“It was very heavy handed,” she said of the county’s action. “From that letter, it sounded like they were going to start putting us in jail.”

School officials deemed the court action a success. School system spokesman John White said the number of children lacking vaccinations dropped from 2,300 at the time the judge sent the letter to about 1,100 Friday.

900 kids still out of compliance
After Saturday’s session, 172 more students were brought into compliance, including 101 students who received vaccinations at the courthouse and 71 whose records were updated.

That still left more than 900 students out of compliance with vaccination requirements, White said.

“Obviously, we still have some more work to do,” he said.

Any children who still lack immunizations could be expelled. Their parents could then be brought up on truancy charges, which can result in a 10-day jail sentence for a first offense and 30 days for a second.

Prince George’s State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey couldn’t say Saturday whether he would prosecute parents who fail to comply.

“We have to sit down with school and health services,” he said. “We haven’t ruled anything out. We need to figure out where we stand.”

White said the school system, with about 132,000 students, has been trying for two years to get parents to comply with state law. That law allows children to skip vaccines if they have a medical or religious exemption. It was unclear how many medical or religious exemptions were involved.

Critics demonstrate outside courthouse
Maryland, like all states, requires children to be immunized against several childhood illnesses including polio, mumps and measles. In recent years, it also has required that students up to high school age be vaccinated against hepatitis B and chicken pox.

Nichols said nobody actually came before him Saturday, but he was there if any parent asked to see him.

The judge noted the unhappy looks of some of the kids in line waiting for vaccinations.

“It’s cute. It looks like their parents are dragging them to church,” Nichols said.

Several organizations opposed to mass vaccinations demonstrated outside the courthouse. While the medical consensus is that vaccines are safe and effective, some people blame immunizations for a rise in autism and other medical problems.

“People should have a choice” in getting their children immunized, said Charles Frohman, representing a physicians’ group opposed to vaccines.

Here's part of an article that was sent to me, about a study into the neurological harm done by vaccines. Read the full study. There are some very interesting links from the page.

Done in June 2007, the study was financed by Generation Rescue, a group of families with autistic children who have been working to find out why this has happened to their youngsters and how to help them. The study itself is a survey of 11,817 California and Oregon households, with a total of 17,674 children, 991 of whom had never been vaccinated. It was produced by SurveyUSA, an independent company.

There seems little likelihood of bias in favor of results showing a link between vaccinations and autism, as SurveyUSA includes several pharmaceutical firms among its clientele, including Abbott Laboratories, Alcon Laboratories, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Corporation, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck Laboratories, Monsanto Company, Nexium, Pfizer, and Schering Plough -- all documented in the SurveyUSA list of clients ((ht tp://ww w.surveyusa.com/index.php/who-...). If SurveyUSA has a bias, it must be in favor of the pharmaceutical corporations. Yet, this study shows a result that does not benefit any of these businesses.

Data were analyzed according to sex and county, and broken down by age ranges 4 through 10 and 11 through 17. Percentages of children with these disorders were noted according to whether they'd been vaccinated or not, and the correlation between the two numbers, called the Risk Ratio (RR), was calculated.

The RR is a simple calculation that compares the percentage of vaccinated to unvaccinated children with each disorder. Thus, if 4.5% of vaccinated children have Asperger's and 2.7% of non-vaccinated children have the same disease, the RR is 4.5% divided by 2.7%, giving an RR value of 1.67. (4.5/2.7 = 1.67) Thus, an RR over 1.0 indicates that vaccinations are related to a higher disease incidence, and an RR under 1.0 indicate that vaccinations are related to a lower disease incidence.

Results Summary

Vaccinated boys:

* Neurological disorder, RR = 2.55 (155% more likely to have neurological disorder than unvaccinated boys)

* ADHD, RR = 3.24 (224% more likely to have ADHD than unvaccinated boys)

* Autism, RR = 1.61 (61% more likely to have autism than unvaccinated boys)

Vaccinated boys ages 11-17:

* Neurological disorder, RR = 2.58 (158% more likely to have neurological disorder than unvaccinated boys)

* ADHD, RR = 4.17 (317% more likely to have ADHD than unvaccinated boys)

* Autism, RR = 2.12 (112% more likely to have autism than unvaccinated boys)

The study notes that older children are more likely to have been diagnosed with a neurological disorder, because such diagnoses are often missed in younger children. Therefore, this is likely the more accurate figure.

All vaccinated boys and girls were 120% more likely to have asthma than unvaccinated children (RR = 2.20).

Vaccinated girls showed no significant difference from unvaccinated girls in neurological disorders. Whether this is due to the relatively small number of girls with these same disorders or because of the relatively small number of girls with such disorders in the study is unknown.

From what I know its different in USA to UK, and we aren't forced to have our children vaccinated if thy want to go to school, where you are in the USA?? am I right with this?

Anyway, it is probably a matter of time for the UK too ...but I will never and have never vaccinated my children. I took an informed choice when I was pregnant with my eldest son who is now 10 and decided the cons out weighed the pros. I do will however use homeopathy if needed but to date neither of them have been seriously ill and even when my eldest had chicken pox he sailed through it.

It isn't just the health issue but the animal rights issues too in relation to how they culture some vaccinations and of course the vivisection side of it.

I have been lucky that so far I haven't had too much resistance about not vaccinating my boys but I am also strong enough in my convictions to fight my corner about vaccinations as I do about raising them vegan :)

Just watched it. Dreadful how we overload kids on vaccines to their small body mass and immature systems..

Sooooo true!! ....it is scary the amount of vaccination combination's children have before the age of 2 years old.... no wonder it overloads their systems and causes them damage.

Every time I hear about someone taking their babies for jabs I just scream inside ..but ultimately it is a parents choice but unfortunately not many parents get an informed choice ....they just do what they think is right and what they have been brainwashed to believe is the best thing ...so it is understandable that so many children do get vaccinated. After all the media brands you a bad parent if you don't vaccinate and it is understandable that some parents don't feel strong enough to stand up to it especially when you are a first time parent you panic about everything and anything anyway... thankfully some of us do have the strength to step outside the box :)
